John

Is there some reason why you think the T & C's do not apply to you.

You acknowledged my pm an hour after I sent it.

Thanks MadBull. Am having trouble accessing the rcmp site, but will keep going. Will be interesting to see what kind of life he led from 1920 to 1928.

Many thanks for your help.

Regards,
Rebecca

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (1920-present)
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) maintains service records for members who served after 1920, however, because of Privacy Act regulations, information from a service file is not available to the public until twenty years after the date of death. Submit your request for information to the RCMP Historian by e-mail.

Hi MadBull,

Indeed, looks like he didn't return to Canada. On Googling RCMP I see that it escaped dissolution in 1920 and was named RCMP only in 1920, so mabe they were happy with recruits from any country at that time. It would be great to find out some of his service history.

Regards,
Rebecca

On the 1928 passenger list he says the country of intended future permanent residence was England.

Edit: Oops, should have refreshed the page before I posted that.

Thanks MadBull.

Yes, this is the Passenger List I have for him.

I now realise that on the incoming passenger list to the UK on Oct 1928 it states the intended country of permanent residence to be the UK. So this means he didn't return and stayed in the UK.

I wonder if anyone has access to the RCMP service records for his time spent in Canada (1920-1928)?

Many thanks,
Rebecca

I wonder if anyone is able to trace any info on my 1st cousin 2x removed after he emigrated to Canada to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Full name: William Richard EWERS
Born: 21 Jul 1899 Battersea, Surrey, England
Father: Charles Edgar EWERS
Mother: Elizabeth Lydia STRIPP

Departure Liverpool: 1920
Arrival Quebec: Oct 1920

I see that he visited the UK in Oct 1928 where he is mentioned to be a Constable (presumbaly in the RCMP).

I have also found a possible death reg in Q1 1963 Surrey NE for a William R EWERS aged 63. Maybe he never returned to Canada after his 1928 visit?

Many thanks,
Rebecca
