My grandmother was Lillian Selena Cantrill, born Dec 10, 1891, at Leicester, Leicestershire. Her fathers' name was William (H ?) Cantrill. I can't find accurate information about him, other than he was born around 1866, and his spouse's name was Elizabeth Jenkin or Jenkins. When my grandmother was married, at Regina Saskatchewan, Canada, on Dec 18 1910 to George Henry Lincoln (b Aug 21, 1886 d July 15, 1960, Vancouver BC Canada), her maiden name was listed as Lillian Selena Maude (I have a certified copy of the marriage certificate.) I don't know the reason why but do know that a Walter Maude, and son Reginald are listed as relatives in our family tree. Any information about these family members would be helpful.

pm from Thomas re Lillian Selina
Her marriage certificate indicates her age as 19, born in 1891. Regarding Walter Maude, my best guess is that he was her step-father. His wife, as listed on the above marriage certificate, name is Elizabeth Jenkins. Coincidence? Perhaps William Cantrill devorce/died, prior to grandmothers marriage in 1910. Any suggestions?
There is a William Cantrill who died about 1894.
She married in Canada though, so that is where you might ahve to look for the re-marriage of Elizabeth.
Do you know when they left for Canada?

In reply to an earlier question, adoption unlikely I don't think there were official adoptions until the 1920s. Looks like he was her stepfather, but it was not unusual for the children to adopt the stepfather's name - have come across it many times in both my own tree, and searching for others.

Flip ..... I agree, no adoption. Adoption didn't become legal until about 1927.
She was his stepdaugther, and that probably is why she used his name when she got married.
Hope Thomas agrees that we have solved his family for him!
BUT he must get some certificates to prove it all!
I'm off to bed now!
