'Also Frederick died and Elizabeth married John j Jones and her mother was Caroline Barnes married to William eith Bassindale or Barnes,i got that of LDS some time ago ,they got married in New York it does get confusing'

is this the one you mean?

Elizabeth Bassindale Bottcher
Event(s):
Birth:
Dorchester, Dorset, England
Parents:
Father: William
Mother: Caroline Cole

Marriages:
Spouse: John Fredrick Jones
Marriage: 26 JUN 1899 Manhattan, New York, New York

the plot thickens! -it's the only one I can find on the lds but she was born in Dorset!

'lincashireAnn yes it does say Manchester but if she was with her g,father she was only 2yrs old so probley would,nt no were she was born'

sorry dutch, but I still do not know how you know that William was her g grandfather, the fact that she was only 2 is probably not too important. Her g grandfather would have known where she was born. On the other hand he might not have told her.

BUT you have not yet proved who Ada's grandparents are yet let alone her gt grandfather.

To go right back to basics. You say your mother married as May Mellor. Are you sure you have the right birth certificate for her. Did you know her as Ada or as May? There are several May Mellor birth regs in Lancs about the right time.

Sorry to seem doubting. I am just trying to think 'out of the box' a bit to see if there is another direction we can try.

was that 1871 census only a guess as I seem to remember you said somewhere that you did not actually know the names of Ada's sisters? I think it was a guess that Ada grandaughter of William was yours but your Ada says she was born Manchester in the census records with Samuel.

We seem to have found several Ada & Elizabeth Bassindale/Bassendale/Baxendale families

(if going for Baxendale it was a very common surname in Lancs)

I did look for a death of a Robert but I did find a Elizabeth Bassindale d of a Caroline Barnes (widow) in 1881 but could not find a ???? Barnes and Caroline ????? marriage - confusing myself even more now!

Dutch,

I am wondering if John could have become a step father to Ada at some point in her early years?

A marriage certificate for Elizabeth and lousia may shed light,,but were they ever cousins to Ada?

Although you say in 1871 Ada,Elizabeth and Lousia are granddaughters of William Bassendale, were they all sisters?

Could be not as black and white as it seems?

I think this is more likely to be the Robert on the West Derby marriage

I know..was just explaing to Dutch that there are no Ada baptisms shows in Lincolnshire with father as John.~~}so any Lincs connections to Ada may only be by a relative.
