Find Ancestors

n I just thank everyone who helped me with this. I finally found him. Born in Old Windsor just outside Salford Lancashire As his father died when he was 5 years old he probably thought he was born in Windsor Berkshire, just goes to show don't give up. His father is now posing a problem,

Robert Pierce born 1831 don't know where my aunt thinks Ireland. Joined the 36th Regt of foot on 1846 enlisted at Newcastle upon Tyne. Married Mary Clews in the Isle of Man in 1854 had 3 children Robert, William Thomas and Elizabeth Caroline posted to \India in 1863 and died 1864 from smallpox. His wife Mary remarried a few months later in India. His children hated their stepfather and both Robert AND William joined the Army as soon as they were old enough to get away from him. Elizabeth married a man twice her age in India when she was only 14. Any ideas on tracing his birth, Kew tell me records were not kept for soldiers who died in service. Hope I have not hit a brick wall after all this.

I agree, but on the marriage cert it definitely has his name as Robert John he certainly got around though no wonder I am having problems. If I could find his birth cert then I could get details of his father an mother.

It's interesting that on these baptisms mother has both first names, yet the father just has his first name only!!

Hi Thanks every one. I have his marriage cert. Gives his father as Robert (surprise) Pearce. His occupation soldier again (surprise) The witness at their marriage was Lucretia who was Alice's sister. I really don't think he would have changed his name as the name Robert seems to run in the family. So I dont think he would have been adopted.

In 1901 his wife Alice Mary Pearce (Nee Hobbins) is down as Head of the house. I guess he was away in the Army at that time. I have his marriage cert he was married in Alverstoke on 7th Jan 1879 he gives his age as 22 and he was stationed in Aldershot at that time. I have just come up blank trying to find his birth. His children were Bertha, Robert, Doris, Dorothy, May Maude and Lucy any help in finding his birth reg would be greatly appreciated.

Have you found him on previous census? We would need the info of his wife and children to trace him back and try to find a subsequent birth for him.

Hi I have come to a dead end can anyone help. My great grandfather Robert John Pearce appears on the 1911 census record and gives his birth as 1857 born in Berks Windsor. I cannot find any records of this birth. Has anyone any ideas.
