Searching the 1911 for Bradshaw in Platt Bridge, we get:

BRADSHAW AMELIA 1868 43 Wigan Lancashire
BRADSHAW AMELIA 1908 3 Wigan Lancashire
the household also has husband/father James and several other children.

Aunt Elsie is Jane Ellen's daughter.

So that makes Amelia Bradshaw Jane Ellen's sister?? Or sister's husband? (duh -- I meant brother's wife!)

This is the household in 1901:

Name: Amelia Bradshaw
Age: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1868
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: James Bradshaw
Where born: Haydock, Lancashire, England

Name: James Bradshaw
Age: 38
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Amelia Bradshaw
Where born: Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire, England

Civil parish: Hindley (district 24)
>> 107 Walthew Lane

James Bradshaw 38
Amelia Bradshaw 33
Sarah E Bradshaw 13
Richard Bradshaw 10
Catherine Bradshaw 7
James Bradshaw 4

They're certainly in the right place by my theory so far. ;)

There are various marriages of an Amelia to a Bradshaw, but none of the Amelias is a Griffith(s) or Kelly ...

Marriages Sep 1887
BRADSHAW James Wigan 8c 1
MILLER Amelia Wigan 8c 1

But what's the connection??

might know soon...apparently,a.elsies' neighbour was on the ancestry site and has found jane ellens' birth cert!!! she was indeed born in wales(auntys memory still sharp,at 88!)..she remembered meadow street too. i'm waiting for him to scan em over to me...don't know if tonight or not. will help me a lot, tracing rest of family. the anderson link still a mystery tho. a.elsie still thinks she was fostered,BUT if she was adopted by kelly family...would make sense. but then, nowt straightforward happens for me!! lol

don't know about back then, but when we were little,we always called mi mum and dads friends, and some neighbours "aunty and uncle" and i was brought up only a few miles from platt bridge...could it be they werent related, even tho a.elsie called her auntie? you have lots of patience..thnx

Elaine, good luck with the neighbour who has found Jane Ellen's birth certificate ... she must be clairvoyant ... because we've all looked, and we're not exactly blind or inexperienced, and we haven't been able to do that.

IF she was born in Wales, there are:

Jane Ellen Griffith 1893 Oct-Nov-Dec Caernarvonshire
- would have been 23 in Feb 1917
Jane Ellen Griffith 1894 Jan-Feb-Mar Caernarvonshire
- would have been 23 in Feb 1917 if born before 10 Feb 1894
Jane Ellen Griffiths 1893 Jul-Aug-Sep Caernarvonshire
- would have been 23 in Feb 1917
Jane Ellen Griffiths 1894 Apr-May-Jun Glamorgan
- could have been 23 in Feb 1917 (if born in Feb and registered in April)

and that's assuming that her age at marriage was correctly stated ...

Can't wait to see which one the clairvoyant neighbour has settled on.

lol its a he! details as follows:- jane ellen>girl>born 30,meadow st;pontyeymaner(?..hard to read, plus its in welsh!); llangemor(again?)>father gomer griffiths(so NOT william)a collier; mother>elizabeth griffiths, formerley jenkins. might simplify my going back another generation...there cant be TOO many gomers!!

Elaine, I'm sorry, but you're going at this backwards.

You can't just assume that someone is your ancestor and run with that. I mean, you can if you like ...

Maybe your aunt remembers Meadow Street ... maybe she heard Meadow Street and thought that sounds good ...

Jane Ellen's marriage certificate says her father was William. That may or not have been true. But to just latch onto a birth because a street sounds familiar ...

Anyway, what you haven't given is the DATE of that birth; the rest of th einfo is pretty useless without it ...

The one you're talking about appears to be the last one in my list a couple of posts above:

Births Jun 1894
Griffiths Jane Ellen Bridgend 11a 731

Bridgend covers Llangeinor.

Marriages Mar 1890
GRIFFITHS Gomer Bridgend 11a 782
Jenkins Elizabeth Bridgend 11a 782

Elaine

Elaine Report 28 Mar 2011 23:34

is it at all possible that the registrar put william, right after he had wrote william for other father?

It's possible, Elaine (that the registrar made a mistake on the father's name), but as mistakes go, it isn't one of the more likely ones.

"no janey....i had a copy of the birth cert in front of me"

!!!!!

You have a copy of **A** birth certificate in front of you.

You have no way of knowing it is *your* Jane Ellen's birth certificate!! except that your aunt says she remembers the street name.

(In 1901, the family is on Zanthir? Road.)

Suddenly you have abandoned what you insisted on in post after post -- that it was GRIFFITH not GRIFFITHS ...

I am by no means saying this is *not* your Jane ellen.

There just is no proof it is, and the father's name contradicts her marriage certificate.

i just caught mi aunty b4 she went bed! she said i am same build as my grandma, she said mi grandad always said jane e's brothers were tall. i seem to be bringing memories back each time i ask her summat. so that last one could fit. she was so excited to tell me bout the birth cert. but i was worried a bit cos of the fathers name, and also the fact that she always celebrated her mothers birthday on 26th june, which is few weeks different(however birth on cert was REGISTERED 20th june. felt awful casting doubt for her,but i need the correct information

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 29 Mar 2011 00:21

Keep in mind that someone born in May 1894 was 22 ... not 23 ... on 10 Feb 1917 ...

Again, none of these things would be "proof", to me, that it was the wrong person.

They just aren't proof that they're the right person. ;)

This birth (third in the list I put above)

Name: Jane Ellen Griffiths
Year of Registration: 1893
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Pwllheli (To 1937)
County: Caernarvonshire
Volume: 11b
Page: 433

is the one that would fit with both a June 26 birthday and being 23 yrs old in Feb 1917.

Elaine

Elaine Report 29 Mar 2011 00:26

thats the one i thought first, when it cum up!....i'm sure they all wished her happy birthday, and i'd imagine she'd told them at some point when her birthday was,so for it to be wrong for so long...17yrs in a.elsies case, seems far-fetched to me

The thread you were asking about in the other one:

when the wedding cert. comes for jane e kelly and charles e anderson, what would it show in the brides father and mother slot? if someone was adopted, would it show her adopted mothers maiden name,or her birth mothers maiden name? hoping you can advise. elaine

Let's just wait and see what it says and then try to decipher it!

As I said in the other thread, there will be no info about mother at all, just father. Don't forget there was no adoption -- just fostering, or being reared by a relation or family friend, or having a stepparent, or some such. In those circumstances, you can never predict what somebody might report for the father info. ;)
