Trying to locate marriage details and parents of Robert Thomson. He married Dolina MacKenzie in Scotland around the Inverness/Cromarty area approx 1923, as their son John was born in the same area c1925 and then soon after went to NZ to find a job in the Forrestries (no work there) and then came to Australia and he found work on the railways. Their daughter Margaret was born 1930 Werris Creek NSW and then their son Robert Wildon Thomson b.1938-1978. I don't have access to censis or bdm o/s. I've tried the mormon site but nothing. Would be very interested if anything could be found. Would much appreciate any kind of help.

When Robert was 8 and living with his Grandparents MacRae's there was maybe a brother? Aleser (Alexander) Thomson 15. I wonder if he was a 1/2 brother or cousin?
As my Grandfather Alexander came out to Australia at 16years, and we never new the connection between Alexander and Robert. I thought Alexanders parents were Alexander and Jean, but maybe Jean died and Alexander remarried. Getting a bit confusing now and getting late, Thanks alot for all of your help Catherine.

Robert is still at the same address in Belmore in the same occupation a painters assistant. Also with him is a John Thomson but no occupation is listed.

I was just kindly given this info:

Dolina Mackenzie was born 24 Jun 1899 at Kinnhaird, Contin, Ross and Cromarty. She was born illegitimate at 2:30am and her mother was Margaret Mackenzie, a general servant, aged 18 at the time. There is no father named on the birth certificate.

Dolina married Robert Thomson, a forestry woker, (b1892) at the Central Temperance Hotel, Academy Street, Inverness on 25 December 1922. Marriage was after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland, performed by C MacEchern, minister of Inverness Parish and witnessed by John Macdonald of West Lodge, Avoch, Ross & Cromarty and Jeanie Mackenzie of Fairburn Mains, Muir of Ord, Ross & Cromarty.

Margaret Mackenzie's parents were Donald Mackenzie a farm servant (ploughman) born 1860 Fodderty, Ross & Cromarty and Williamina Taylor born 1859 Killen, Avoch, Ross & Cromarty. Donald and Williamina married in 1879 in Avoch.

In the 1891 census Donald Mackenzie was a ploughman aged 32 living at Brahan, Urray, Ross & Cromarty along with his wife Wlliamina aged 33 and their children Elizabeth aged 13 (born Killen), John aged 11 (born Kilmorack, Inverness-shire), Margaret aged 9 (born Kilmorack), Williamina aged 6 ( born Dingwall, Ross & Cromarty), Duncan aged 4 (born Urray), Helen aged 2 (born Urray), and Annie aged 9 months (born Urray).

In 1901 census Donald Mackenzie, aged 41, was a ploughman in charge of horses at Kinnhaird, Contin, Ross & Cromarty living with his wife Williamina aged 42 and their children Duncan aged 14, Nellie (Helen) aged 12, Annie aged 10, Hannah aged 6 (born Contin), Rodina aged 3 (born Contin) and grand daughter Dolina aged 1.
It would appear that Donald and Williamina brought up Dolina as their daughter because they are named as her parents on her marriage certificate.

I'll just cut and paste the connection difficulties which I don't understand.

The three boys names on Robert Thomson, Alexander Thomson and George MacDonald. This is all I had to go by, Alexander married my Grandmother and we were told that Robert and George were cousins. I'll tell you a little about them. These three boys came to Australia, Alexander married my Grandmother, he came to Aust when he was 16. He married in Australia, so I've found all of the following info. As far as I can work out his parents are Alexander and Jean. (so I'm not too sure if Robert and Alexander are the brothers) Robert's parents are John Thomson & Elizabeth MacRae, both died when Robert was young, so his paternal Grandparents cared for him after his mother died c.1902. There were other kids in John and Elizabeth's family that didn't go with the Grandparents only Robert and also a Aleser (Alexander) who was about 6 years. older. And George MacDonald married an Ida (I think Sabina Ida Cavey here in Australia). They married in 1925 so he came out prior. So I'm assuming his mother was a Thomson? Does that make sense? haha

Hi Bronwyn. There is an Alexander with the same parents as Robert. I have opened the birth cert.. I will have a look for Alexander and Jean and get back to you.

Bronwyn when did Alexander travel to Australia? I note that Dolina Robert and their son travelled to Australia in 1927. Did Alexander go to Australia circa 1902?

I can't find an Alexander with parents Alex and Jean in that area. That's not to say that what you think is incorrect, I can't find them.
