Elaine ..Have brought this over .So folk wont be wondering where the Co Mayo connection is from...

thnx a million RamblingRose...will try them. the names i am seeking are my gt gt grandad Dennis(denis?) Mahon(mahan, mahone?) the 2 spells for dennis come from census and marriage with mahon & mahan. the mahone is how mi dad said it was spelt. we know he was from mayo. we live in n.ireland, but used to live in galway, and when my dad came over every year we took him all over...when we took him to westport,he said that was where his family was from. don't know if this is correct, but until his death in jan. age 86,his mind was still very sharp.

JaneyCanuck Report 12 Apr 2011 18:12

EGB, could you edit the post two above to show the *census year*?

I don't think we should assume that either Denis's or Catherine's parents were in England, though.

Eringobragh1916 Report 12 Apr 2011 18:21

Elaine...What addresses do you have on the MC and DC for Dennis and Cath...

Eringobragh1916 Report 12 Apr 2011 18:27

joseph the hairdresser is also on the 1871 census, having moved to prescot. joseph, dennis' father was living in 1861 but deceased in he wouldnt be round in 1871.

JaneyCanuck Report 12 Apr 2011 23:30

Poor Elaine. ;)

Have I missed it somewhere? - what was Joseph's occupation on Denis's marriage certificate(s)?

If Joseph the hairdresser was living in 1871 he very probably is not the right person in any event, or why would Denis say in 1868 that his father was deceased?

pilot.familysearch has one death in Ireland in the right time period to fit:

Name: Joseph Mahon
Registration District: Mohill

i know janey :-( ! i contacted ann,who sent me the copy of cath and dens wedding cert..she has the same as me,with the end and beginning missing. she is going to contact the person who sent it to her...unfortunately it won't be quick, cos he dont have a computer. cant take any longer than getting it from the gov site...been wating over 2wks for jane e kellys wedding cert!

Eringobragh1916 Report 13 Apr 2011 10:11

Elaine...You have the Heart across me so you do..!!

The Joseph Mahon (b 1827) may have been an elder brother to Dennis (just a suggestion) and he was still in Ireland 1863 when Harriet was born...the earliest Census he would show up on 1871 (jax) yesterday.

In the name of the wee man who is Jane Kelly...?
