Just wondering Wendy if you will be going to the Nottingham archives any time soon. I was advised on here to contact you as trying to locate more information on a past relative.

Thanks Wendy.

I'll give them a ring on Tuesday. The lady I'm trying to help lives in Brisbane so it's not so easy for her.

I have had this problem before, another GR member had contacted cemeteries in Derby who two or three times said his relative was not buried in any of their cemeteries yet when I searched at Derbyshire Records Office I found him in one of those cemeteries.

If I get no luck on Tuesday I will do as you suggest and message the contributor.

Hi Chris,

Sorry Nottingham Archives does not hold the records for Retford Cemetery they are still with the Cemetery. As it is on the find a grave web site I would get in touch with the Bassetlaw Cemeteries department again asking them to recheck, the only other thing I can suggest is to go on the Find the grave web site and leave a message for the Contributor asking them where they got the details from and if they can help you.

Hi Wendy,

Next time you go to the records office would you mind checking the burial records for

Name: Thomas Bernard Burton
Birth Date: 1880
Birth Place: Nether Langwith, Nottinghamshire, England
Death Date: 3 Jun 1967
Death Place: East Riding of Yorkshire, England
Cemetery: Retford Road Manton Cemetery
Burial or Cremation Place: Worksop, Bassetlaw District, Nottinghamshire, England

The above details were added to my thread where I was looking for the above named in 1939. I passed the info on to my friend who I am trying to help she said she had already got the information but when she contacted the cemetery where he is supposed to be buried they told her they have no record of him being buried there.

If you can find the details would you please give me the grave/plot number and details of who is buried there with him.

Thank you

Chris

hi John,

Leave it with me and I'll see what I can do. Hoping to get into the archives soon as haven't been able to go for a while, was decorating my daughter's new home for a month and then had the flu but all better now.

Hi Wendy,

I am trying to take my paternal line another level and was wondering if you could look up a marriage for me.

It is highly unlikely that the register will have anything other than that which appears in the Notts FHS dataset but if you wouldn't mind trying it would be appreciated.

The marriage is at Blyth, St Mary and St Martin on the 7 May 1699 between John Newcomb and Rachel Hayes.

Regards

John Newcombe

Hi again Wendy

I dont know if you can help but I am researching the birth family of a friend who was adopted.

She was born in 1940 in the Porchester Nursing Home, Mapperley. Do you know if the place still exists?

The rest I am going to put in a private note to you

Gerry :-)
