Hi Wendy. Are you still looking in the Notts archives? I have a mystery to solve with the Binghams. I know George Bingham b1839 in Boughton, married to Ann (Sudbury/Sadbury) b1836-ish in Kneesall.
He is my gt gt grandfather. I wonder if there's his marriage certificate anywhere because I think he was born out of wedlock and his mother was Maria Bingham (not sure though - she does exist but is she his mother? Plus a brother Charles? Are they the family of George or not?) and she remarried a George Smith. It should say on George's marriage certificate I think..?! Any help here and with earlier back before George gratefully received. (These Binghams ended up in Suffolk).

Thanks, Rupert Sayer

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for adding the date for me. I have another couple of requests if you don't mind.

Could you please check a burial record for a William Bradford who died in Radford district in Jun q 1852. I'm wondering if he was the son of the couple whose marriage you found for me, John and Mary Ann Bradford. William's age in the 1851 census was given as 6.

I'm also looking for a baptism for a Rosina Watts, birth regd Sept q 1844. In the 1851 census she was shown as Rosannah Watts but in the 1861 census she was shown as Rosannah Padmore (family name).

No birth reg found for Rosannah Watts/Padmore.

Thank you

Chris

Hi Wendy,

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look up the marriage for me. It does confirm the Eliza I have found in the 1851 census is the right one. Just need to find her mum in 1851 now. Did you happen to make a note of the date of the marriage.

Regards

Chris

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for taking a look for me but I don't believe the baptisms you have found are my Eliza. The birth reg I believe is hers was in Sept q 1847 Nottingham, maybe she wasn't baptised at St Marys.

Since posting my request for the baptism look up, I have seen Eliza's marriage in the Derby PR and her father is named as John, a frame work knitter. This ties in with the family I have found in 1851 living in South Street. Head is Joseph c1796 a widower, John son c1824 married Frame Work Knitter, William son c 1845 and Eliza daughter c1848. I thinkJohn is Josephs son and the two children are Josephs grandchildren. Any chance you can try and find Williams baptism please.

The marriage I am interested in if you don't mind taking a look, is in Dec q 1844 Nottingham between John Bradford and Mary Ann Padmore. In 1901 Eliza's mother is living with Eliza and her husband, Mary Ann Winfield. This ties in with a second marriage for a Mary Ann Bradford.

Thank you

Chris

Hi Wendy,
I know I have bombarded you with stuff already, but I also have another problem I am hoping you might be able to help me with.

I know that my great great grandmothers parents were Henry Swann and Martha Beckwith who married in Nottingham in 1850. My trail has gone cold though for Henry. The only reference I can find regarding where he came from was on one of the censuses which says he was born in Quorndon, but I am struggling to find him. One complication is that I have fairly strong evidence that the family changed its name to Carter and back again for quite a long period of time.

The other thing is, I'm not sure what happened to Sarah Swann, my great great grandmother as she gave birth to my great grandfather out of wedlock and he was brought up by Henry and Martha.

Thanks for your help

Wayne

Hi Chris,

Sorry to have taken so long, Happy New Year to you too.

The only one I could find was a Elizabeth Ann Bradford on 15 May1848 St Marys daughter of John & Ann a Labourer of North St,
Also found Abigail Bradford on 29 March 1847 St Marys daughter of John & Ann Bradford of Pariliment St, a gardener.

Also 1 marriage for John Bradford and Ann Widdowson 9 Jan 1846 St Marys I’ll check this marriage next time I’m at the archives.

You will need to check census to see if they are all the same family.

Hi Wendy and Happy New Year.

Would you be able to look up a baptism for me please. I'd like to know who the parents of Eliza Bradford born c1848 were. In one census she gives her place of birth as St Marys Nottingham. It would be great if you manage to identify any siblings too.

Thank you

Chris

Having loads of fun thanks. Although most of the people around me think I'm a little off my rocker.

How's about this for a co-incidence though...

My dad, Malcolm Armstrong married my mum Kathleen Swann in the 60's and naturally I have been tracing both lines back. Her dad was a miner in Pleasley and he was born in 1906. His name was Albert. He was born at Woodhouse Yard, Sutton in Ashfield. His dad was killed in World War 1 and I know from a younger brother's death certificate who died in infancy in 1915 that they were still living there at the time. It seems The Armstrongs and The Swanns probably knew each other way before my mum and dad got together, even if it was a different branch of Armstrongs (yet to be proved).

Spooky or what?
