Serena Report 19 Mar 2012 12:42

Hi Wendy, I see Derek has contacted you regarding my family. Maria Sison 1859 Ilkeston [ Hannah Maria ] and Henry Atkinson1858 Basford

On their marriage at St Leodegarius , Basford 1877, it gives Thomas Atkinson and Fanny White as Witnesses. They married 1878
Henry and Thomas i assume are brothers as they both list John Atkinson, Miner as father.
I have searched for their records but drawn a blank, however i have found John Atkinson 1817 m Emma White 1823, Children William 1853 ,George H J 1855, John Thomas 1858 , Albert 1867
Thomas Atkinson died 1891, no death record but a death for John Thomas.Could George H J be my Henry ?? I know they lived in Basford Rawson Street, Rye Street area
Hope you may be able to help

Hi Serena,

No I dont think its the same family as that John was a Frame Work Knitter but on the 1881 census he was living on the same street as your Henry.

I have looked on BMD and found a Henry Atkinson born March Qtr 1858 Radford District and a Thomas Atkinson born Dec 1859 Basford District so they could be yours sorry no christenings for them.

Also how do you know that Thomas died 1891 if you cannot find a death record??.
I will have to do some looking on census to help o find out more.

Hi Wendy,
Thomas was married to Fanny, 1881 they lived 21 Rawson Street. 1891 living 49 Rye Street, Basford he was listed as imbecile on census.

Fanny remarried 1892

1881 Henry and Maria at 33 Rawson Street
1881 John Atkinson 37 Rawson Street, Coal Miner. Henry married 1877, Thomas 1878. Could John have become a miner after 1871 ??

This is driving me crazy. I cann't find any christening records for Henry and Maria's children so i assume the weren't christened, they also had 7 children who died i can only find 2 of them !!!!

Thanks for looking
Serena

HI Serena,

Sorry had to go off-line yesterday. I must have read the 1881 census wrong. So it does look like the same family then, I'll see what I can find at the archives for you.

Hi Derek,

Just to let you know I've started to look though Mansfield churches for the Marriage of Frank Witham and Annie Surgey. I've done St Mary Sutton in Ashfield and most of Mansfields churches but haven't found it yet.

Hi Wendy
Thomas Atkinson married to Fanny, she remarried after his death to William Brownlow. Not sure why they are in same grave ?
Henry Atkinson died aged 2 33 Rawson St, Florence and Gertrude could well be his sister's . He was born 3 years after parents marriage [unusal in those days ]
Ethel died aged 7 she was a twin and died after night dress caught fire
John is the correct age to be the one i think is Henry and Thomas's father
I still have to confirm Henry's death, 1904 i think, they lived Bobersmill Road , Basford at that time
Hannah Maria died 1940 and is buried in Nottm General Cemetery. This helps to find the 5 children who died .
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Serena :-)

Hi Lorraine,

1970's would be the Cemetery I don't have them on CD but will check the records at the archives when I'm next there, but its more likely to be at Bulwell Cemetery or Wilford Hill.

Hi Derek,

Hope you are keeping on eye on this thread. I have now managed to look though all Mansfield Churches for the Marriage of Frank Witham and Annie Surgey 1915 that you ask for but its not in any of them so again I think its best for your connect to buy the certificate but I'll keep on eye out in case it pops up else where.

Sorry about that.

Hello Wendy..thanks for your efforts...........I presume that by 1915 people didnot have to marry in Church.which appears obvious in this case..

Keep up the good work.

Wendy can I prevail on your good nature again please.

I have William Bartrop born c 1834 Walkeringham, Notts. He was a Shoe maker by trade. He is never with his parents on the census only grandparents William b 1785 Worksop and his wife Sarah b 1788 Honeysecks, (that's what it looks like on census but no idea where it is) Derbyshire.

He married Charlotte ??Keightley in early 1860 , Worksop .

Anything that would give his parent's names would be wonderful.

Many thanks in advance Jennifer
