Good afternoon Wendy hope you are well.

Could you please look for a marriage for me. It has taken me a while to find this as his name is actaully Richard Spence but it often gets written down incorrectly.

The one I think is him is :
Richard Spencer, July Q 1865
Basford District

spouse first name on 1871 census is Sarah
His father's name was Thomas Spence.

Hope that is enough information for you
Regards Jennifer

PS someone has him on a tree on Ancestry with a marr date of 4 Sept 1865 but no source to back this up.

Hi Jennifer,

Richard Spencer married Sarah Brown 4 Sept 1865 at St Helen's Church Selston,
I'll check marriage for father next time I'm at the archives.

Wendy that is great thanks. If you could check father's name and the witnesses I would be very grateful.

This is a very complicated family. In 1861 they were in Huddersfield where Richard was born and in 1871 he, his mother and other siblings are in Nottinghamshire. Their mother is housekeeper to a man and in 1881 they are back in Huddersfied and she is now the 'wife' of the man she was housekeeper for.

Richard's father disappears after 1851 and I think may have been sentenced to 7rs Transportation.

Thanks Jennifer

Hello Wendy.

I made a request on 28.June 2011 to you to see if you can lookup some obituaries that would be in Mansfield.Nottinghamshire Newspaper.

I sent you the information in pm as the Deaths only occurred in the last 20 yrs.

I have been back down mansfield last month and found that library is still closed till february next year!
Is the offer still open for a lookup??

Kind regards
Linda.

Nottsgirl Report 4 Nov 2011 11:47

Hi Dannie,

Sorry I thought I had sent you a message,
I haven't found Daniel Stanley yet. Bulcote didn't have a church in c1670 and have looked in Burton Joyce which is next door to Bulcote and he's not there that I can see, the problem is some of the records for the 1600's are in bad condition or in Latin but I'm still looking.

Sorry it taken so long.

Wendy

Hi Wendy
No problem I am very grateful to you for giving up so much of your time to help myself and all the other gr members you should be commended.
The only other places that I can think of where he could have been born are Sutton in Ashfield or Lowdham if it is possible for you to take a look there for him I would be most grateful.
Kind Regards
Dannie

Hi Dannie,

Lowdham is one of the villages I was going to look at as its the next village down the road from Bulcote. Sutton in Ashfield is a lot further away but will look there to for you.

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for that. As his first son was named John it's a good bet that you've found the right baptism.
