Hi Jade,
I am sorry I did not get back to community with a post, we have only just got back from an extended holiday, mind you if I am honest I must admit that this is the first time I have looked on my threads for a long time!!

Sorry to say that I have never found any thing else on the Greenalls, especially Elizabeth which is my sticking point so if you do find a connection with your George I would be most grateful if you could let me know. In the meantime, good luck. :-)

Hi Wellybobs,

Have you managed to find anything on the Greenalls yet? I am stuck with a George Greenall born in 1804 in Parr, so he could possibly be a brother or other relation of Elizabeth/ Margaret

wellybobs Report 21 May 2011 15:55

Hi,
just to let you know that two of the tree holders have opened their trees and neither have any further info on Elizabeth Greenall other than her sister Margaret.
Both have information on Elizabeths husband John Bradbury with his father, mother and siblings etc, and their source of information is IGI and parish records, which I have also looked at but I guess I need to look more closely at those for a connection to her husband.
At this rate I reckon that Elizabeth could remain a mystery :-(
Once again many to you all. M.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 20 May 2011 23:15

mmm - not both of those states

sister -in-law to William = married to W's brother - so no

unmarried = sister to Elizabeth - so no

(I do not have access to census to see the details myself)

it was just trying to find a possible connection with Charles Dagnall

wellybobs

wellybobs Report 20 May 2011 22:35

I suppose it is possible, but I think on the census I have seen, on FMP and GR it's been transcribed as Margaret being unmarried and sister in law.

On the original image on the GR 1861 census there is a John ?, it looks similar to greenall and he is listed as son - in -law, I don;t know if there is any significance in that, which again is clutching at straws, i think!
I am hoping that the messages to the three tree holders comes up with some evidence.
I know one has more information on Elizabeths husband and I have asked how he traced the information, I honestly don't want to just add names to my tree without some supporting information which I should be able to find if someone else has, hopefully!! :S
In the meantime, thanks for the help and will keep exploring :-) M

could Margaret Greenall on that census actually be Elizabeth's cousin rather than sister

it was a long shot but thought it might be worth a try.

thanks again.

opc records online contain all the details from the parish register so LRO will only confirm what has been transcribed

Hi all,
got back to it this pm and many thanks for your posts..... I have sent messages to the three trees with Elizabeth Greenall on, one of them I have had contact with in November and I have asked again if he can point me in the right direction cos he has got further back on her husband, John Bradbury than I have so I will have to wait and see what I get.
I am going to follow up the ideas on Greenell, Greenhalgh etc., and will keep you up to date with how I get on.
Does anyone know if the online parish records are "extractions" and will the Lancashire Records office possibly have more information such as fathers names.?

Eccles?

A load of other kids for them ... but no Margaret ... !

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 19 May 2011 16:55

Lynne -- re Greenall / Greenhalgh -- actually there happens to be a recent thread on the boards about someone who was called variously Greenhall and Greenall -- so Greenhalgh may very well be another variant to look for.

And Sylvia, see how stupid I am about Lancashire, I knew there was something -- lancs opc, not lancashirebmd. Remind me from time to time.

From that site, William Greenall and Sarah (Thomas) had three other children:

James and William bap 1808
Edward bap 1817

No Margaret.

A Margaret:

Baptisms: 7 Dec 1800 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England
Margaret Greenell - Daughter of Thos. Greenell & Margt.
Born: 3 Nov 1800
Register: Baptisms 1795 - 1806, Page 62, Entry 1484
Source: LDS Film 1278740

but no Elizabeth for those parents!

Hi many thanks for your replies,
thanks for the idea of changing the "before or after" to place of birth Janey, I am not familiar myself with Lancashire so sometimes it is a little difficult to understand the different locations in relation to each other.
SylviaIC, I have tried online Parish records, and Family search, I could not find the marriage on the old version but it was on the new version but with not added information. The birth you found is the one I found but there is nothing to substantiate a connection.
I have to hang my head in shame, I have not yet searched trees, it is something I have never done, I think that has more to do with unsuccesful "hot matches" for which GR seems to be famous!
I will now though :-)
Going out for the day now to visit the family so will get to it again tomorra, so once again many thanks for taking the time and trouble to look for me, it is much appreciated.
and Janey, thanks for feeling guilty ;-)
take care one and all. cheers. M.

Well Wellybobs, I and 21 others had read your post! (re your post on Genealogy Chat saying you'd had no replies)

In this case, it looks like you have checked the same sources as anybody else would have access to.

You're looking for the birth/baptism of someone born c1803.

You know who the person married -- but there's no indication in the marriage record of the person's parents' names. So you have no way of knowing whether you have found the right birth, even if you find one.

http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

No, rats, that's only from 1837 onward. I have no personal connection to Lancashire so I'm not especially familiar with sources. if If you replace "before or after" in your post heading with the location of her birth, it could help attract attention from someone more familiar with Lancashire.

It also helps to post a census record, not just say you have it. Information there may prove useful.
