Have sent Joyce the 1901 image.(from FMP) Not a great copy but it's legible.

Her info came from the 1901 online,I think.

Had a nice response,etc.

Joyce

Don't know enough about the legalities but think it not likely that after 1875 she would get a way with registering a birth EDIT 2 yrs later. Nothing else comes up for me for Jessie Thomas. Think Astra's W Derby Jessie Cook more likely.

Have taken a look at Mary Waters Guest's sister Isabella but she was married in 1880 and no Cooke name shown.

Not sure which web site you found Jessie E but can confirm no E on Ancestry only Jessie C.

Oh.
Well, you should really look at the actual image when possible.

Gosh-you do cite your sources very well !

I'll be happy to send you the image(s) for the 1901 if you PM me with your email address.

Best,
Maureen

My transcript comes from the1901 census site accessed on 1 February 2004 - (1901) census.pro.gov.uk/index.jsp.

Both the family schedule and Full Transcrription details give the name clearly as Jessie E Thomas. I've had no reason to re-check the site details since 2004.

Since Jessie E Thomas was plainly listed as the daughter when I accessed the site in 2004 I believed that she must have been named Jessie E Cooke Thomas, although where the Cooke came from is anyone's guess!

I don't know where your transcription comes from, but the actual image is Jessie C. Fairly easy to tell as the enumerator's "E's" are quite different.

Astra,

Jessie listed as Jessie E Thomas on copy of Transcript from 1901 census, living with JH, Mary W and William Thomas at Towson Street, Liverpool.

Could the C (Cooke) have been transcribed as an E when typed?

Vera,

This could be promising but the year is wrong as Jessie was 12 at 1901 census - unless, for some reason, there was a delay in registering her birth as some family believed her to be illegitimate. What are chances of them getting away with that?

Nice to see 69 Towson Street mentioned as Towson Street 171 is where Jessie lived at time of 1901 Census with mother, Mary W married to Joseph and ?full/half brother, William A Thomas.

Jessie's birthplace given as Lancs Liverpool and now I see that her name is listed as Jessie E Thomas - E is a new development so I can see I'll have to search for a Jessie E Guest or Jessie E Cooke in 1889.

Got the marriage info for Jessie and Christopher (got copy marriage cert) but can't find trace of Jessie's birth. She celebrated her birthday on 21 July each year but not sure whether birth year was 1888 or 1889. Not even sure whether her birthplace was the old Walton Hospital Workhouse, Liverpool as it was only second-hand info which she received from another. We do know that she was a Liverpool girl who never saw her birth certificate and, so, we don't know whether she was registered even though it was illegal not to do so.

Is her birth registered as Jessie Guest or Jessie Cooke or, indeed, any other surname? The Thomas surname appears to be her stepfather.
