Hi All,
This is a big ask but I will try and make it not too long winded. I am trying to find a link between this family and mine.
I have found Edwin Hollins born c1853 Birmingham with his wife Hannah nee ?? born East India living with children all born, birmingham
sarah A c1878 Elizabeth c1880 Ada c1882 Edward c1889 Ellen c1890 Beatricec1895,
The probelm is I have found them in the 1891 census living in Birmingham but have been unable to find a marriage for them or them in 1881 and
In 1901 it looks like Hannah remarried to George T Baker in 1898 as I have found them living in Birmingham.
Her first husband Edwins occupation was a labourer and her second husband was a coal wharf labourer any one got ideas how to find Hannah's first marriage so can get her maiden name and parents and also Edwin's parents I have been trying for weeks now and can not get anywhere.
Any advice and help much appreciated. Kind regards costa

what connection are you thinking with your own family ?
if it is through Edwin is it not a good idea to identify him definitely with his birth family ?
you have a 'c' birth date for him, have you searched for his birth at freebmd ?
Edwin and Edward and also Edmond/Edmund were often treated as interchangeable and people with one name could be found as another in censuses
in fact
Births Dec 1856 Hollins Edward Birmingham 6d 129
seems to be him
have you found him in the 1861 or 1871 census ?
if this would not help with answering your question there is no point in one of us doing those searches and posting the information here but since we don't really know what the question is ... :-)

Hi Chrissiex,
I think it is the Hollins side of my family yes I have looked at births for Edwin Hollins but there is alot of them so too many to go on also Hannah's second marriage to george baker I also have Baker's in my tree it was just that I was told awhile ago that one family member had married a lady from India and when I found this that is why I have been looking into it. I think I will go for the child's birth cert and see Hannah's maiden name.
Kind regards costa

I think the family Jan posted is almost certainly them and Edwin/Edward very probably did not marry Hannah ...
why do you think the Edward Hollins birth I posted is not this Edward ? I did not see -any- Edwin Hollins births 1855-1860 except one in Chorlton
why not just tell us what the connection you are trying to establish is ?
to -whom- are you trying to connect this Edwin Hollins ?
blind searching like this isn't really productive for anyone !
this would be the one whose birth I posted, in 1871
Name: Edward Hollins Age: 14 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1857 Relation: Son Father's Name: Richard Hollins Mother's Name: Harriet Hollins Gender: Male Where born: Birmingham, Warwickshire, England
Civil parish: Birmingham
Richard Hollins 40 Harriet Hollins 38 William Hollins 21 Mary A Hollins 16 Edward Hollins 14 Richard Hollins 11 Thomas Hollins 6 Harriet Hollins 4 Alfred Hollins 2
it would be a mistake to place too much weight on the Edwin / Edward difference !
my grandfather lived his life as Edward and discovered when he retired that his name was Edmund :-)

Hi Chrissiex
The family that alviegal posted with Hannah as edwins wife and Hannah was born in India and she was a Bristish subject this was the family I am looking for. I will order a birth certificate for Beatrice Hollins and see what her maiden name was then come back with more information as it is like a needle in a haysack at the moment.
Thank you everyone for your input tonight and I will come back to this thread when I have more details
Kind regards Costa

Hello Costa, We are researching the same family, Beatrice Hollins was my Grandmother who died 3rd January 1966. Throughout her life she used Florence as her first name , my mother who is still alive at 87 remembers her grandmother whose complexion she described as dark. We are probably researching the same family, if the administrators were to allow contact with each other then we would possibly have information that would be useful to each other. Regards Bill
