Just had a look at the IGI for the birth of an Edward Desborough around 1740 and came up with one baptised in Nassington, Northamptonshire, 10 May 1733, to Edward and Anne. You might like to keep him in your shoebox.

This area is quite difficult as there are several county boundaries all converging around Peterborough and given our ancestors' roving natures, they could be anywhere. Certainly one of mine went from Kings Cliffe (near Nassington) to Whittlesey. The good news is that Northamptonshire is quite well-covered on the very excellent freereg site!

I think the Huntingdon Desborough family is a different one from the Whittlesea one.

Hoping some of this helps Marjorie get sorted a bit, with so much of the Huntingdon family on google, it is confusing!.

Ok Chris

Here we go I have got a copy of Willie aka William birth certifica he was born on 25/11/1888 to James Thomas Desborough and Mary Jane Thorpe at 33 Holdforth Street New Worthy

I have a copy of his marrige to Mary Selina Bygraves, on this he is down as William this was in 1910 and it has his father down as deseased

I have a copy of Thomas James Desborough and Mary Jane Thorpe in 1875 on this copy it gives Thomas father as Thomas as well
But Thomas went by James for some reason, I know this is right as as my Mum remeber that her Mary Jane Thorpe married twice after Grandad James died, and i have followed it through via family etc

I am not sure if you have the right James though please let me know

He needs to be found from 1851 onwards, his Marriage 1875 just gives his father as Thomas, Labourer...

Marjorie,

There are some more to come from Whittlesey, sorry, I don't have the Wisbech PRs but they are available from Cambs Family History Society. Unfortunately, they do charge quite a bit for them...more than any other FHS I've prurchased from :-(

Best wishes

I have just stumbled across this correspondence relating to the Desborough family in Cambridgeshire. Does anyone please have any records or connections relating to a Mary Desborough (or Disbrow) who married Robert Stevens in Stow-cum-Quy by licence on 5th January 1785? This was Robert's second marriage and he came fro Bottisham. Thanks.
