Henry born in Canada in 1859, his parents are Thomas, a Retired Army man born in Ireland and Mary J. born in Canada. So they probably married in Canada. I was just wondering if her maiden could have been Carash?

can i ahve recap of all this information how this is related to me and whos who please alot of information?

Thanks

chrissiex Report 4 Dec 2011 16:50

omg rootgatherer how perfectly excellent :-D

Lucy maybe you can just try to read things through in order and follow along :-)

the surname Micklewright was on the baptism record of one of Emma Georgina Sheffield/Carash's children, it said 'Micklewright Carash' for father

also ... she had children who were born as Micklewright and died very young as Carash

I was one who thought his surname was really Micklewright and there was fudging going on because the parents were not married

the Mr Micklewright that rootgather has found fits that profile perfectly

... he was married to someone else so he had children with Emma Georgina but was not married to her

... on his Canadian baptism record his brother George's name shows ( at least as it is transcribed at familysearch ) as MECKLEWRIGHT with mother CARRASH

it seems certain Henry is the father of Emma Georgina Sheffield's children

https://novascotiagenealogy.com/

this is the site where you can see some historical births marriages and deaths in Nova Scotia ... it has

Micklewright, Frederick William Halifax, Halifax County 1864
Micklewright, George A. Halifax, Halifax County 1867

you can view the actual birth registrations there

the birth registrations at that site only go from 1864 to 1877 so Harry's birth is not covered in that range

the record for Frederick is an application for late registration made by his wife Elizabeth Micklewright in 1939 in New Jersey United States ... it says his date of birth was 11 July 1864 and it gave a leaf from the family bible of Thomas Micklewright showing the birth of Frederick William Micklewright as the fourth child of Thomas and Mary Jane Micklewright ... and it gives the mother's name as Mary Jane CURASH

( you saw ... the baptism record from familysearch gives it as CARRASH )

Frederick Micklewright born 11 July 1863 died in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1958 at age 94

Frederick Micklewright is the brother of George Micklewright

Henry Micklewright brother of George and Frederick is the father of Ruby Carash

Brother Frederick returned to Canada or perhaps to the United States since that is where his wife was when she applied to register his birth in Nova Scotia in 1939 ... probably because he needed to prove his age in order to get a pension
( 1864 + 75 = 1939 )

MICKLEWRIGHT 1863 M 1906 Liverpool Canada Montreal ?

there is one Micklewright listing in Nova Scotia in the telephone directory at present ... and 11 others in Canada

http://www.canada411.ca/search/?stype=si&what=micklewright&where=&x=0&y=0

... but family could be in the US ...

after a while ... when you have all this sorted out :-) ... you might want to get in touch with them because it seems that HARRY MICKLEWRIGHT is your ancestor

I would guess that he used his mother's name Carash since he was involved with a woman who was not his wife

edit and by the way I absolutely think Thomas Joseph Micklewright 1892 is Cedric Carash

Big big thanks to MaurennNY for finding Henry Thomas's mother's maiden surname. I just had a gut feeling that he may have used his morther's maiden surname for his pretend marriage to Emma. I had a great uncle who did the same thing!

Only 2 Micklewrights born Nova Scotia on the 1911

HOUSEHOLD MICKLEWRIGHT CHARLES NORMAN M 1870 41 Wandsworth London
HOUSEHOLD MICKLEWRIGHT GEORGE ALBERT M 1868 43 Wandsworth London

I can't see Jemima Micklewright or Henry Thomas micklewright in the 1901 census. Nor can I find Emma Sheffield / Carash in 1901.

I can't see a death for Henry Thomas Micklewright or Carash born c1859. Can anyone else please? Or can some check to see if he hopped back to Canada?

To summerise

Edie Forder (Lucy's Grandmother) - parents Forder & Ruby Gordon
Ruby Gordon Lucy's Great Grandmother) - parents Ruby Carash, father Gordon
Ruby Carash (Lucy's Great great grandmother)- parents Emma Georgina Sheffield (aka Carash) and Henry Thomas Micklewright (aka Carash)

So Lucy it looks like Emma Georgina Sheffield aka Carash aka Garner aka Caplin and Henry Thomas micklewright aka Carash are your Great great great grandparents.

a member of genesreunited has in their tree

George Micklewright 1867 Nova Scotia

that is the brother of Henry/Harry whose birth record in Nova Scotia I posted above

someone else has

Fred Micklewright 1865 Canada

also the birth declaration I posted above

............ and ............ there four people who have ...............

Harry Micklewright 1859 Nova Scotia, Canada

these are people you want to talk to Lucy !!

they could be descendants of Harry's first marriage to Jemima

or of course they could just be other Mickewright descendants

edit ...... three of those four people also have

Thomas Micklewright 1884 Middlesex, England

in their tree ..... the son of Harry with wife Jemima

and two of them have

Annie Micklewright 1886 Middlesex London
Maud Micklewright 1888 Middlesex London

...... the daughters of Harry with wife Jemima

Thank you Maureen. I do think that it has all been great teamwork.

I have to say that it the last few minutes I think I may have found a reason for us being unable to find a Gordon / Carash marriage. I have copied what I have found but to avoid information overload for Lucy just now, I'll wait for the details from Ruby Gordon's birth certificate that Lucy has ordered. I do think that I have perhaps found an Aberdeenshire connection for Ruby's family - no great surprise really with a surname like Gordon.

I have mostly enjoyed working on this family although sometimes they have proved difficult to find. Still some loose ends though regarding Henry Thomas Micklewright. I am now thinking that he wasn't dead when Jemima remarried - he had just shot the craw and Jemima had him declared dead after their years of separation. As Emma never married him she was free to marry Mr. Garner anyway in 1906 although she stated that she was widowed.

the reply is

'Sorry for not replying sooner I have only just read your message, I have looked at some details I have in my tree.
I do have a Frederick Micklewright marrying an Elizabeth. He himself was born in Nova Scotia at the fort there as his father was military in 1865. I know he married Elizabeth who was born in Holloway London in 1869. If this is the same person I have located 2 children Sidney G Born 1896 in Brixton and Eva M 1899 in Northfleet Kent.
