hello im wondering if anyone can help me - i have been trying to ind out more about my fathers side of the family since he passed away 4 years ago... there is no family alive to tell me any information. and although ive found lots on his mothers side, his fathers remians a mystery.

I knew he died in sunderland in 1975 and found the reference which said his birth was registered 29.02.1904
I then applied for the marriage certificate 1930 (married to lousie pescod in newcaste) and found his father was also called albert taylor and was a draper.
I then looked at the 1911 cencus and found nothing!
Ive even looked for george taylor as he was known by my dad as george - and still no luck,

Im either missing the obvious or desperatly in need of some help

He was a sargent major in the army... i dont know the area he was from as my dad said he was constantly travelling with the army all his life and met my grandma in newcastle.

any help would be great x

thanks emma

hi ginny

my dad (albert geroge taylor) was the only child of his father albert geroge taylor and lucy pescod. i do not know if my grandad had any children - my father never knew of them if he did.

i am also unsure if my grandad although i say my dad was the only child - fathered any other children as he was a womaniser i was told who left my grandmother and lived with a woman in sunderland where he died, although still married to my grandmother.

very complicated!!!

Emma - ps ill check the reference everyone has been kind enough to supply

Emma

Emma Report 30 Nov 2011 18:45

hey ginny the 2 references

TAYLOR Albert George Ashbourne 7b 747 - this is the one i thought it was and i got the birth certificate but the date of birth was not the same as what the death record stated.

TAYLOR Albert George Portsmouth 2b 50 - this one i crossed reference with the 1911 census and the father name is james i believe and not albert.

Gee

Gee Report 30 Nov 2011 18:52

I thought that your dad married Lucy Pescod? Are you saying your grandfather married this lady?

Emma

Emma Report 30 Nov 2011 19:02

yes its very confusing as they are named the same - my dad albert george taylor was born 1938 and married dorothy hotham in 1982

my grandad also albert george taylor born 1902 and died 1975 married lucy pescod in 1930 = he is the one i cant find any trace for all i know is his birth year and that on his marriage certificate his father was also called... albert taylor

sorry if i wasnt clear - its quite hard to explian when writing :)

Hi Emma

Have you read your posts especially your opening one? Very confusing. I read it as if your dad was born in 1904!

Have a think about the facts and then post again here.....we can take it from there

You also need to post all the details such as correct dates/years/places and ages

Emma

Emma Report 30 Nov 2011 22:59

it doesnt matter.... think im getting further myself

Gee

Gee Report 1 Dec 2011 09:26

So this is your dads birth with the mothers name 'Pescot' not Pescod?

Births Sep 1938
-------------------------------------------------------(your dad)
Taylor Albert G Pescot Lambeth 1d 442

and this is the above persons, parents marriage Lucy named as Pescod?

Marriages Dec 1930
-----------------------------------------------------------(your paternal grandparents)
Pescod Lucy Taylor Newcastle T 10b 221
Taylor Albert G Pescod Newcastle T. 10b 221

So would this be the birth of Lucy

Emma

Can you post the full details of your grandparents marriage:

Addresses/witnesses/all three occupations of the groom and fathers and are the fathers listed as deceased or not

Just cross ref the three births that I posted with the 1911. I can see the Alberts born in Leicester and Portsmouth but not the Albert born in Ashborne

What are the details on the birth certificate for the Ashborne birth....DOB/mother/father/address etc

I know you say that the DOB on the Ashborne certificate is different from the DOB listed on the death certificate in 1975 but the date is only as good as the person that registers the death.

If he was born in 1904 then his father may have died by the 1911....his mother may have re married. What ever it is, he is not showing on the 1911 under his birth details

Lesley... Albert Taylor, married to Emily Taylor as you have stated was actually archibald pennell, he did live in tewkesbury, and when his first wife miriam died and his business collapsed he and Emily, a childhood sweetheart moved on, eventually ending up in Birmingham, he took in his brothers name and Emily's surname and started a new life... I know this is a very old thread but to find any pieces to our family jigsaw which is now coming together is fantastic... So if you are reading this thank you
