Gillian it would be better perhaps if you start your own thread for your search, otherwise it will be missed possibly as the original post was dated a year ago.

Delete your post here and start a new one( click on 'New topic' at top of page ) and I am sure someone will help.

NB PM sent with marriage of Alphonse, which 'may' give father's name.

Dear Folks
Does anyone know, how I can find out more about my neice`s grandfather,We do know that his name was Alphonce Leon Coache, born 14th march 1916,Belgium.
His mother came from Scotland, and married a man from Belgium, they lived in Belgium until Alphonce was abt 8yrs old.when his mother left his father and came back to England, Alphonce eventually changed his name to Alfred Leon Coache.
Is there any way we can find out his mother or fathers name?
Please can anyone tell me where go from here.?
Gillian

Belawan Estate near Medan (a harbour town), Sumatra. Area put under Dutch Governance latter half 19th century. Europeans running plantations - lots of tobacco, mainly Dutch. Try googling Belawan Estate - de Fremery and belawan estate
Pieter de Fremery died 1988, Wassenaar, Netherlands

The only thing I can suggest is that you search the electoral role for Caledonian Road London but there wouldnt have been one (ER) taken during the war years

You would need to go to the local main library to Caledonian Road and search

Hi, it's a bit of ashot in the dark. H was my nans fathe although he is not on her birth certificate. All we know is that he and his family excaped Belgium before the war andhe was in WW1 as a Sargeant. His parents and two sisters I believe lived in Caledonian Road, London. I've assumed his birth year to be 1895 onwards as my great grandmother was born 1900, so I am assuming they were of a similar age, his photo shows that he wasn't an older man. I think I am asking for two much in trying to find any information about him but I thought I'd have a go. thanks for your quick response. regards, Karen
