interesting that Doris Gwendolyn Martin DOYLE
birth was registered in 1962. so a 'very' late registration.

I have seen one 30 years late before but this one is 62 years late!

There is a chance that Ellen married, there are quite a few Ellen Martins' who married after 1900.

Thank you so much for your reply to my post, and all that information. Sorry for my really late reply. I'm fairly new to genealogy and wrongly assumed that any responses would be sent to my email address - I've only just discovered your message on Genes Reunited. Anyway, I'll do some searches on the possibilities you sent and see if I can make some progress (I also joined Ancestry.com this year).

Some further details I didn't send before. My grandmother, Doris Gwendoline Martin was born on March 5, 1900 in Wellington, New Zealand. Her adoption records show that her birth mother was Ellen Martin, born in Philadelphia, USA, around 1876. Doris was adopted by James Doyle (1852-1926) and his wife Alice Brooks (1867-1954) in Wellington on May 19, 1900, and became Doris 'Lulu' Gwendoline Martin Doyle. In 1919 Doris married my grandfather Albert Harold Hanlon (1890-1982), and in 1928 married Francis Eric Quinlivan (1899-1986). There was no record of Doris' birth father on the adoption file, so it looks like the father will remain a mystery. There is also no record of Ellen's death in New Zealand, so I assume Ellen returned to the USA.
