Trying to find birth info for Caroline West born about 1842 in Wheelock ? Cheshire, she married John Skelton in East Retford Notts in 1859 and family later moved to Liverpool. Any help with Carolines birth would be helpful thanks.

It should be on FreeBMD if its not listed then she may not have been registered .Many births pre 1875 weren't.
Her marriage cert should name her father,if known.

Her parents were George West and Elizabeth Freshnay both born about 1803 in Lincolnshire. I think her father was an excavator, possibly a navvy working on either canals or railway (I'm only guessing here). If so the family probably had quite a nomadic existence, was it a legal requirement to register a birth.
