My great great grandmother had a brother William Alfred Miller baptised at Lambeth 27/5/1804 to William Henry Miller [occ Potter] and Sarah Gore. I have come acroos a few trees online that have my William Alfred Miller as a lighterman, but none can actually show me any proof that the 2 Williams were the same people. Does anyone have access to any apprentice records for lightermen that might give a clue as wheter William Miller was the son of William Henry Miller or was he another William? :-S

	Re. Pams reply........ The Apprentice Bindings books (which record the name of the apprentice, the date of binding, the master's name and mooring, and the date of freedom (i.e when the apprentice having learned his trade, qualified to get his own license) cover the period 1688 to 1949. The original records are held in the Guildhall Library in London. (Address; Guildhall Library, Aldermanbury, London EC2P 2EJ Tel; 020 7332 1863; www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/guildhalllibrary . If you are not able to get to the Guildhall, then we offer a number of alternatives. Regards Vera

My William Miller was the son of William Henry Miller [a potter] and Sarah Gore. Mabel[above] and a few others have him as a lighterman, but I need to prove that William Alfred [son of William Henry & Sarah and William] and William the lighterman are the same . The above baptism from Susan is my William Alfred. Cheers Pam

Member Since: April 2003 Posts: 222 Send Message	Hi Have had a look at the Thames Watermen's records on Find my Past and there is a William Miller from Kings Arms, Lambeth, bound to a Mark Forster Miller on 7th May, 1818, free 18th August, 1825. From the start date of the apprenticeship this could be the William born 1803. This trade very often ran in families. Regards Jackie
