The Huddersfield Chronicle of 01 September 1855 carries an article (too long to retype here) about an apprentice, Aquila Pitchforth who was struck by his master John Fox, a linen draper.

Aquila had been his apprentice for 4 years and seems to have had a history of insolence. He and Fox had words and Fox struck him about the face several times (he'd hit a servant once before).

The following is coming up in a search of the archives for 1860 but having trouble finding the actual article

""Mary Ann Pitchforth may incur she tlr ¦ - Smy Wlfe Pitchiorth, having left and' «C^yto\£wX&*£2 cause or reason, and against my consent ° UtjUBt Dated the 20th day of J une, 1 860. ' vru «,•„• t AQUILA PITCHFORTH Witness— William Lawton, Huddersfield. &alt*""#

Liverpool Mercury Saturday 2nd August 1890

A Birkdale Bankcrupycy Annulled
At the Livrpool Count Court yesterday, before judge Collier, an application was made by Mary Ann Pitchforth, widow, lodging house keeper at Birkdale, for annulment of her bankruptcy. The failure took place on 6th May 1887. Recently, through the death of her mother, she had come into possession under her fathers will of certain property in which her mother had a life long interest and the official reciever had paid the creditors 20s in the £1 and 4% interest. Mr Mather representing Messrs Smallshaw of Southport supported the application and there was no opposition. His honour made the order.
