Trying to obtain information on my grandfather's brother

Here's what i know ...
Percival Geroge Wilson b 1907 Wolstanton, Staffordshire to David Henry Wilson and Rose Coogan. David dissapeared and went to South Africa early 1900's Rose died 1921.
Percival [ George as we knew him ] sailed to Canada arriving Quebec 1927 listing my grandfather Stanley as his next of kin. He went to Ontario to be a farmer ? as part of the settlement act. My mum thinks he joined the Canadian army at some point. He never married and died in the 1990's . We were contacted by a probate firm trying to trace his relatives after he died, they dealt with my uncle in Hong Kong who gave the money to charity as there is a large family and not much to share ! I found this out years lated when i started reaserching the family . I contacted this firm as we know nothing of his life in Canada they won't tell me what they know unless i go on BBC Heir Hunters !!!!!

So can any one tell me where i might find his info in Canada, where he lived etc

Sorry there is a lot of info but thought it best to tell all i know :-)

There wont be a lot to find on the online records side of things due to privacy laws in Canada

I would jump at the chance of someone researching my relative, even if it meant being on TV....personal choice I guess

Still Looking ....Have all info regarding his birth and his voyage to Canada but nothing after

Mum remembers he lived in Calgary

When Mum and her brother were contacted regarding his unclaimed estate it was by 2 different companies, neither received any paperwork regarding this so was it not claimed ??? Although my uncle recieved a box of photo's !We know it was after 1998 which was when his sister died

Is there a list of unclaimed estates in Canada as there is in UK ??
This would at least help in finding out where he lived, occupation etc

Would a newspaper have published an obituary ?
Please can any one point me in the right direction, it's not the money, we as a family would love to know about uncle George

Thank you

You could contact Edmonton Public Library - they have a branch in Stathcona although it looks as if emails go through to a central point.

No idea how the Canadian Library Service works, but they'd probably be able to suggest possible newspaper archives.

NOTE - Monday is the Canadian Thanksgiving day, so public offices will be closed
