I think I may have confused you all.I only met Rose and Bill in 50s and 60s. Rose was older sister of my paternal grandmother, Maud Hobbs [Wheeler] They were part of a large family and as a child I can only remember meeting a few of them at various times. We moved to Chingford, and visited them at Nazeing until 1965, at our fathers funeral. After thatmy brother and sister and I had moved away and lost touch with all but close family.Hence I am searching the sites for info. Will keep watching for any further news from any of you,and will let you know if I find any further clues. I do have their address in Nazeing. Will that be any use,as at the moment i cannot access the electoral lists.
It was 49/51, Pecks Hill, Nazeing.Cheers Daphne

Thank-you all so far. I have some of the info you have also found, but very confused with the 2nd marriage, and not finding rose in 1911, with or without Alice.I am going to look further but would still be interested if anyone finds anything further.
I only met Rose in 50s and 60s as she lived near where we lived at the time, and as children my brother and sister used to cycle to see them. Her Husband [ partner] was Bill, and they had a son Bill.Has made it difficult as no family members are now left to ask for more detail,so I have no surname for Rose and Bill. The last time I saw her was in 1965,and she would have been about 83. I only started on Genes a few years ago once I retired and wanted to trace my ancestors.

Thanks Reggie!

Not that it helps us go any further

I agree with GB, the baptism record indicates that Sidney was the father of the baby Alice in 1903.

How do you know she was with Bill then - being 1903

The baptism record suggest she had Alice with Sidney Burgess

Do you honestly have no idea what surname she was using in 1950's

ErikaH Report 8 Mar 2012 08:31

There isn't a death for her registered in Epping - the district which included Nazeing up to 1974

but she can't have died IF Daphne knew her in the 1950s and 60s!

they probably did not divorce ......... divorce was very expensive and very difficult to obtain right up to WW2, and only the very wealthy could go through with one.

GB .... what did Sydney say bout his marital status on that second certificate???
