ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

David Report 17 Mar 2012 19:19

My Father Samuel G I rvine was born in Belfast and died in Newcastle upon Tyne 12/6/1990

His side of my family tree is of great interest and is a challenge.
I say a challenge as I confess to not being the most able looker upper, usually looking in the wrong place.
To those who have helped me thus far SINCERE THANKS.

I am David Irvine b1945 son of Samuel Irvine b1918 - d1990
Samuel was the son of Samuel Irvine b1874 = Sarah McLarnon.
Samuel was the son of Francis Irvine b1844 d191918 = Rosanna Galloway
Francis was the son of Francis =

Four generations are factual.I'm trying to put more detail to these anscestors of mine.

Samuel Galway Irvine,my GF married Sarah McLarnon at a church in Shankhill.
He was a docker and I'm told served in WW1
In addition to my Father there was my Aunt Rose b1912 and an Aunt Sarah b1915 and another Samuel Irvine who died in infancy.

My Father was born in 15 Osborne Street Belfast Duncairn Ward Antrim
He eventually lived in Arosa Parade until outbreak of WW2

Although you can get your dad's b.cert from GRONI, since it was pre-partition, you can also get it from Ireland, where it's cheaper. This wouldn't necessarily apply to all his younger sibs. Sim your grandparents m.cert, and probably their parents' etc. b.certs (general civil registration began in 1864 in Ireland, plus non-catholic marrs 1845-1863).

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=BRITISH_ISLES

One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via:
http://www.groireland.ie/

The Irish 1901/1911 censuses are free at:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
[Not heard of any release dates for next census (=1926 in both Irelands)]
