Hi Barbara,
Thanks for asking your friend.
I am not sure how large Wath was around the 60's and 70's.
I have no idea which road she lived in, but i will keep looking and unturning all the stones i can !!!!!!!!!
I have thought of old telephone books, had had a bit of a search, but will look into all the info i have been given.
Best Regards
Sally x :-)

Hi Sally
I am so sorry I haven't been any help in finding anyone who knew Joyce and Edgar.

You say your Dad met Joyce a few times --- was this in Wath ?

I only ask because on ancestry you say Joyce died in Wathwood Hospital which I am pretty sure at the time was an Isolation Hospital and people were sent from all over to Wathwood Hospital (Mainly, I think with TB ) It was set in beautiful grounds,

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/details.asp?id=1109&page=18

In the 60's and 70's Wath itself , I would say, was quite a large "village" with lots of Streets / Roads and Avenues, and it sort of stretched itself ---leading into West Melton, Newhill, Manvers and Swinton, and with at least 2 coal mines in the area Manvers Pit and Wath Main Pit it needed the houses for all the workers. (Which are both not there anymore of course :-( )

I will keep looking and try to find something else, Sally, Someone, somewhere must know about Joyce. !!

All the best, Sally, in your search
Barbara x

A BIG THANK YOU TO ELAINE,
How kind of you to take the trouble, will probably find it wasn't a sweet shop at all :-(
To be honest Elaine, i have been looking for about 5 years or more, so a bit longer won't push me over the top !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in the process of selling my house - well it is on the market, and at the moment i can't find my certs, i am always better when i am messy :-D

THANKS TO KAY, i will have a better look tomorrow for the death cert for Joyce, but am sure it said the hospital in the home address. :-S

Best Regards

Sally :-)

Hi
Just a quick message to say my Auntie and her husband seemed to live at Sycamore Crescent, Wath upon Dearne.
It looks like council, but i may be wrong.
Edger died at the house.
Many thanks
Sally :-)

Is there a Post Office or Pub near the shop?

Wanting a photograph of my grandparents' cottage in Wales, which I used to visit, but knew had been demolished, I contacted the nearby pub and they agreed to display a postcard asking for information.
This was seen by an old villager, who contacted someone who could help and I now have a lovely photograph.

Maybe a shop or pub could help you in the same way...?
