Alfred was in the 7th Hussars.

Does anyone have access to army marriages as I believe he married in India around 1894.

On the 1901 census she is named as Catherine Charlotte, I need to find her surname.

Alfred's service records (which were exemplary) are on FMP. They contain a copy of his death certificate in 1948. Let me know if you want a copy.

What has thrown me is Alfred's father's name, Stephen, should be Henry.

Back to the drawing board me thinks.

I would have thought that as Alfred's middle name is Stephen then it is much more likely that he was named after his father.......therefore Stephen rather than Henry would be more likely correct for his father.

Are you now saying that the Alfred Stephen Barrett in the census is the wrong one, or do you have the wrong father?

Father is Henry Barrett born 1925 in Woolhampton, my gt grandfather.

So Alfred's the one you're tracing - don't suppose you know his date of birth?

There are numerous records for that name in England and overseas, would help narrow them down.

Exact date no, only the year,1868, gleaned this from 71 & 81 census.

I was always told his second name was Stephen/Steven but this may not be correct.
