Mike - but you can find a Thomas and Jane MAria together..I couldn't find Thomas with Louisa?

Could "Whiteley" be a middle name?

Jude

The earlier posted marriage may be misleading... there are 2 other parties so maybe it was a double wedding rather than an inter-marriage !

This tree may or may not be proved but posting it for you to think about.

She woudn't be the first to lie about being a spinster. My Gt grandmother did, and married for the 2nd time under her maiden name

Lexie - you seem to be speculating and working down the tree. The ONLY way is to start with a hard and fast relative and work up the tree.

So...who have you/your sister-in-law STARTED with?

Hello all Obtained marriage cert for Ellen Harpham and Charles marrison but dont seem to get any further forward.Ellen Harpham 27 Spinster father James Harpham Labourer Witnesses Annie Marrison and Henry Spencer married December 1870 .All parties living Worksop married Abbey Church. So that makes it sound tas if Ellen wasnt a Whiteley.Children on 1871 Census John H Emma and Ann given as step children of Charles Marrison so they must be children of Ellen and born out of Wedlock.Cant find Ellen and father James with mother Elizabeth only Ellen and Elizabeth in 1861.Cant find a death for a James Harpham either he must have died before 1861 as Elizabeth is a widow. Can any body help.Thank you

If you could explain who you're looking for............it might be possible to help you

Just give the factual info about them..............don't muddy the waters by introducing speculation

You will need to check the ER for the period.......either at the main library for the area, or the County Records Office

Mike I think the Jane in the 1861 census is 1 not 7....she comes after Thomas and normally they go down in age?

I posted the two births above and I really think they could be the two who marry in 1886!

I can find Jane 1861 right through to 1911 if the married Jane is her..can't find Thomas in 1881

Lexie...IF Ellen was married to a Harpham why is she shown as a daughter and unmarried in 1861?

I take it that Joseph is your line, or is it Jane and Thomas you are related to ?

".I want to find siblings of Joseph Harpham to trace Thomas and Janes parents."

Guesswork is dangerous ground.

Birth cert is the way to be sure.

Advise the person whose tree it is to buy the 1870 marriage cert

You can't, in any case, rely on trees on Ancestry........many of them are complete fiction

I started looking at Ellen another way after finding a tree on ancestry. The tree had a Elllen Whiteley married to a joseph Harpham about 1860.I looked this up and found marriage for 1860.When Ellen married Charles marrison on the 1871 census ther are three children Ann Harpham b 1862 Emily Harpham b 1866 and a John H Harpham b 1864 given as step children to Charles marrison so Ellen must have been married to a Harpham unless all children born out of wedlock.Dont know anything about parents for Ellen.I want to find siblings of Joseph Harpham to trace Thomas and Janes parents. The search as brought me to this a Thomas Harpham married a Jane Harpham both from worksop in 1877 in Brighton they had two children then moved back to Worksop and had another son.Is this the same Thomas and Jane .I know the way to go is Certs but this is not my tree so had hoped to trace siblings of Joseph another way.Thank you for your help
