Yes that is the family. Elizabeth is stated as being born Brighton in 1869 on the 1911, in 1901 born Brighton in 1860, 1891 born Brighton in 1861 (living with sister in 1891, 1901 and 1911). The 1871 census with her living at home states born Islington 1863. Her death certificate states she was 82 when she died in 1946 which makes her year of birth 1864. I found a birth record for an Elizabeth Dean in Islington in 1863. Not sure why she would have listed Brighton as her place of birth other than the possible connection to the Drury's of Brighton. It is definitely her though.

Elizabeth was a witness at her younger brother Henry Faulkner Dean's wedding in 1890 and she is listed as a Drury.

I have the marriage certificate for Henry James Dean and Sarah Faulkner from Ancestry. We knew there was a Faulkner connection but we didn't know where so pleased to have found that at last.

Annoyingly, I have been able to find out information about Elizabeth and her family but still unable to work out what happened between her and George Drury and how they ended up bringing up my step grandfather George Henry Drury. I was hoping if I could find Elizabeth in 1881 census it might have shed a bit more light too.

I still think the most likely scenario is that Elizabeth was seeing George Drury but they never married - if it was the George Frederick Drury of Brighton that she was seeing, then he was still married so that would explain why they couldn't. No sign of them living together though. As I said in an earlier post, Elizabeth lived later in life with a Henry Richard Drury and the George Frederick Drury in Brighton had a brother Henry Richard Drury so I think that this is looking more likely.

Yay! RAF records have arrived at last although not a huge amount to go on. He enlisted in 1940 and was released in 1947. He was in 904 Suadron and later 461 Squadron and was an Aircraft Hand, occupation before the war was a Radio Service Engineer. Looks like he was stationed in UK only at Uxbridge, Aldershot, Pembrokeshire, Headley Down and Silchester. His address was 6 Alwyne Place, Islington, London and listed his next of kin as Mrs Mary Taylor (friend) of 20 St Mary's Grove, Islington. I checked google maps and the two roads run in to each other. George went AWOL on six occasions from what I could see and was under suspension too. He also received one years imprisonment with hard labour in 1946 presumably for being AWOL but I'm not sure. After coming out in 1947, he went in to the reserves until 1954. It lists him as single, no address updates or change in next of kin or anything. Says he was born in Vauxhall which is different to what we had thought - we thought he was born Islington.

So, I suppose I need to find out who this Mary Taylor was, why he was imprisoned and whether the Vauxhall place of birth sheds any new light on things.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know whether there are records relating to military imprisonment that can be obtained? Thanks in advance.

I've been looking on them too but couldn't find anything - annoying that there's a gap during the war.
