Have you got his daughter's marriage cert? Just wondering if it says if he is deceased - not 100% reliable, as it might say nothing, but a start!
I assume you mean no trace after 1919?

Can anyone help me trace my husband's Grandfather, Charles John Blake
Born in 1897 in Croydon Surrey. He married Rose Violet Newman in 1917 in Croydon. She died in 1920, they had one daughter Winifred Margery on Nov. 6th 1919. I can find no trace of him after 1917. He was a Carman in the Army Service Corps. in the 1914-1918 War.
