There was this reported in The Preston Gaurdian April 1862

Josiah Crook, stealing from the shop of Messers, Branson & Hayhurst at Preston, on 23rd February, 30 handkerchiefs, 2 coats and 12 ear-rings - 7 years penal servitude

but previous reports of this theft record this Josiah Crook as aged 29.
(may be a relation???)
(one report records Josiah as a monkey faced little man)

..............but don't forget that when a married woman gives birth, it is assumed that her husband was the father .......... even if he has been dead or absent for many years.

The longest I have come across was a woman who had a child, records show her husband as the father ............ yet he had died 10 years previously
