The helpers are good at finding out information for you but we need the questions answered.

So please think carefully before you post a request as to what help you want and the information you have that will help with the search.

There is nothing worse than finding out eventually that you had information that should have been given in the first place such as knowing that the family went to Australia, or you have the death cert etc.

Also bear in mind that the helpers do not always know where a village or town is in the UK or overseas.

Getting a bit fed up with the requests that start "looking for any information" and give very little information to help with the request.

How have you arrived at the names or date etc?

Surely you have not pulled the names out of a hat !!!!!!

Give us the basic information please so that we do not have to keep asking questions. Stay online so you can answer the questions.

:-)

I agree.
Too many requests asking for help but the user does not give all the info that they have.
This leads to roughly two pages of GR input before anyone can get to the bones of the original question.

And please don't post another thread and tell other people that the information you have been given on your first thread, is NOT connected to the latest thread you have put on.
And it's for the same ancestor you are looking for.

:-D

Please, please buy the certs. Yes I know it works out expensive but you need them.

It makes sure you are following the right family and also confirms information that the helpers post.

and PLEASE PLEASE do not get angry at and / or rude towards the helpers for asking questions!

I sometimes wonder why the helpers go to such great lengths to help other members with their research when they are not including what they know.

For example : didn't think i needed the marriage details

That one bit of information was vital to help find the person but for some strange reason the poster with held that useful piece of knowledge.

If the members do not read the T & C's or message board guidelines then I suppose they will not read any of the many helpful threads on the boards

Glitterbaby, this is brilliant and needs to appear everytime someone hits the button to make a request/add a thread or topic. I think it should be an automatic header.

Now there's a thought and challenge for Genes. If it appeared at the very beginning of adding a thread, then so much time would be saved. It would stop the thread-bearer wasting time!

Sappho, the daft thing is that some time ago (for a short while) there was a similar pop-up appeared when you started to post a new thread but it didn't seem to last long.

Please remember that anyone who helps with your request is just a member who is using their paid subscriptions to help so a thank you would be apppreciated.

If you think your request has been satisfied, mark it as Answered, but please do not delete the thread, as someone on the forum with additional info may wish to make contact

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 7 Oct 2013 20:06

Please before you post a request for help take some time to read the guidelines

Also time well spent would be to read the boards so you get some idea of how to word your request and what info to include.

The helpers on the board are just members the same as you but like to help others with their research.
