I am looking for the burial of my great grandmother. She was Charlotte Cornock, born in Gloucestershire circa 1818 and died in Deptford Kent in 1890. I could not find her on the burial index or in the place of her birth or death. As she died intestate, probate was given to her son, but I can't find the other next of kin, despite applying for an 'admon'.
Any suggestions welcome!

Hello Susan,
Thanks for your replies re Charlotte Cornock, yes, this is my gt grandmother, she was never married as far as I can discover, but had an illegitimate son, George and I think an illegitimate daughter,Ellen, born circa 1847. I would like to know who were the next of kin mentioned in the probate grant, given to son George in 1890. I applied to the probate office for a copy of the admon, as she died intestate, but they did not send that ,only a copy of the probate grant, a copy of which I already had.
Your help much appreciated.

A tree on Ancestry lists another child of Margaret as Eleanor Jane Cornack. In 1861 she is living with Margarets parents as a grandaughter and by 1871 she is listed as daughter

Hi Susan,
A lot of confucion here !
Eleanor Jane is first recorded on the 1851 census of Slimbridge,Glos as Ellen Loyd aged 3 a relative born Cheltenham living with Thomas and Ann Cornock. in the 1861 census she is recorded as Eleanor Jane Charnock aged 13yrs, still living with her grandparents Thomas and Ann in Slimbridge Glos. By the 1871 census she is married to Henry Hurd, and born in Bangor,N.Wales. and still living in Slimbridge. When Henry died, she married Emmanuel Hobbs in 1891 and aged 43. On various censuses she was born Cheltenham,Slimbridge and Bangor! She died in 1929 in Slimbridge. I have looked for her under the names of Loyd,Cornock,Hurd and Hobbs, but still have not found her real date and place of birth or who her parents were ! She is a real mystery. Was her mother Charlotte Cornock, a daughter of Thomas and Anne???
Confusion reigns....

Hi Susan
On her marriage cert to Henry Hurd she named her father as Thomas Cornock, but really this was her grandfather.
On her marriage certificate to Emanuel Hobbs in 1891 at Slimbridge, no father was entered for Eleanor Jane Hurd, just that she was a widow aged 43yrs. I think the Francis entry is a mistake, I could be wrong but I don't think so.There is no mention of the name Francis on any other document relating to the family that I have seen.
Thanks again for the info.

Hi Kath

I just find it strange to have Sharon Francis on the corrected 1871 census for eleanor J posted by K ....and the 1841 census I posted for 1841 for Thomas.

Is it possible that the families last name was Francis at some point.

Sue

Edit
In that 1841 Census I posted all the family are know also as last name Francis

K

K Report 6 Jul 2012 08:29

I think Francis entries are an Ancestry error. Sharon Francis reported an error in the transcription of the Cornock name and her name seems to have been attached to the family in other years than the one she reported the error - 1871.

Apologies I should have edited my post, but returned to sleep afterwards having been originally woken by a deluge of rain

Good Luck Kay
