Yes, the refs on the Medal card lead to the Medal Rolls (at the National Archives, not online). Medal Rolls may give unit he served with. You can't look at War Diaries until you know that.

Thanks for the information and suggestions - greatly appreciated.

Porkie_Pie: Wow, yes, that is my relative!

Tried the Ancestry site and others but without success. The only material listed is the medal card, no service records,

Difficult for me to visit National Archives as I live in Scotland these days.0
Hence, problems finding out about which unit he served in and what action they/Walter saw in Great War..

Any other help/ideas much appreciated.

You need to know which unit of the RFA he was in, which might be given in the Medal Rolls (at the National Archives, not online), or in his service records, if they have survived (on Ancestry if so). Once you know that, you can find out what he would have been involved in via War Diaries.

The Long Long Trail is the best web site for this sort of enquiry.

The obvious way to find such info is to google

The medals awarded were just the bog-standard issue for all who served

The Artillery is an armoured Regiment. Artillery basically means guns

My great uncle served as a driver in the RFA in WW1. Entered France in July 1915. Awarded Victory, British and Star medals. Regimental Number was 62055. Can anyone tell me anything about this regiment and what it did in the Great War?
