Hi Marie The grooms father was listed as deceased on the cert. so going by that I'm presuming if arthur was deceased it too would be on the certificate. I cant remember the names of the other children but I remember they came from the Staffs area. Could the ' Ada widow' that is mentioned in probate be Arthurs eldest daughter Florence Ada (she would be in her 80's now) or his sister

Sorry, Marie Celeste, I'm getting myself confused... if Arthur was around for the 1949 wedding he wouldn't have died the year before would he! Oh well we'll call it a senior moment and forget I mentioned it.

No Lynne - you're not confused at all! Now you've mentioned about the groom's father it does make sense. The two deaths I posted on the last page were possibles but, given what you say, are unlikely.

There are lots of Arthur Salts around so I'll dig a bit more.

This link http://bettsfamstaffs.com/ takes you to the home page of the site that had all the information I posted yesterday. There is an "Index of Names", click on that and then when on the next page click on the letter "B" where it says "Name List". When you've done that, scroll down the list until you find BETTS - under that is an entry "Ellen, Miss" born Jun 1891. Click on her name and you'll find what I posted, plus the names of her other children and who they married.

Not all of the info on there is 100% accurate - they were mistaken about John's death and they don't mention the daughter Gwendoline - but it's well worth looking at. You could also email the person who put it all together.

This could be a possible for Arthur:

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2006
Name: Arthur Salt
Birth Date: abt 1891
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1968
Age at Death: 77
Registration district: Stafford
Inferred County: Staffordshire
Volume: 9b
Page: 386

It's a bit too recent for there to be a probate record to give any further info.
