hi all,

i have definately found the right birch family. edith was daughter of joseph birch and esther ainsworth.

after her marriage to timothy, edith married a Tommy Goslin. Yet again i can find no marriage records or birth records of any children.

Assuming that is correct family, Kate married and had several children, I will send the marriage and names of children by PM, one of the children has a tree on here I think , they may know what happened to their cousins?

i recieved the marriage cert for timothy and edith today the datils are as follows:

2nd january 1932

timothy mcgreal 23 years haulage company/motor driver, 49 gill st, liverpool john mcgreal

Edith birch 19 years cafe bar attendant 30 wilton street, liverpool joseph edward birch

if anyone can help id be truly grateful xx

You know nothing about this lady...apart from the fact she married your grandfather.

We cannot find her if we do not know what her maiden name was or how old she was.

If she had children while married to your grandfather they would have the birth name McGreal mothers maiden name Birch....but there are none so she must have been married before??

Was this your grandmother's brother or Edith's brother ??

Even if her maiden name was Birch...there are quite a few in the Liverpool area that could be her

my grandmother died many years ago so we have no refrence to whom this money was paid to but her brother told us that my grandfather paid money on a weekly basis.


My grandfather married edith in 1932 and was called up for army in 1939 after 5 years
he was released from being a p.o.w and in august 1945 returned home but edith had took up with another chap


My grandfather moved away to bradford and a few years later met my grandmother

no sorry we dont have any information about edith birch at all..All we knew was that my grandfather was previously married and had children. i then found out he had married edith birch in march 1932 in liverpool


i have searched for births for these children but cannot find any trace of them nor for edith birch..


i seem to have hit a brick wall, i will have to try and order a marriage certificate but as im researching lots of different things about my grandad workhouse records/ british home child record/ military records my time has been limited.


i am now trying to throw myself into this research as my uncle is terminally ill he has been given 6 months to live and i will provide him with information about these siblings of his before he dies just something i need to do for him xxxx

hi jax thanks for the reply i really started a new thread because i dont think these children will of been known as mcgreal so i didnt think putting it on the other thread would of been any use to me as edith was obviously going by another name just a guess but i think thats the most proberble explanation!! but maybe edith had more family hence me wanting to find out about the birch family..im not 100% about this but think her mothers name was birchall??

As no death or remarriage could be found for Edith nor any children you need to purchase the marriage cert to find out her age and fathers name and whether she had been married before

You should also stick to the one thread about this family to save people duplicating what has already been found before
