Hi Louise - I guess you mean you can't find their births in the index?

Do you know when and where they were born? Do you know your grandparents' first names?

Have you found a marriage on FreeBMD for a Friend to a Wells?

Do you know when and where his parents died? - Death records should give us an age to work from.

Marriage for the parents? Same area as the birth. Your father's birth certificate will name his parents.

England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1916-2005 about William H Friend

Spouse Surname: Wells
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1918
Registration district: Epsom

There are another 7 possible births of children for this couple. Have checked trees on ancestry but no-one connects these parents to the names.

You can't look for their births until you have an idea of when they were born

Their ages will be on the marriage cert.........as will the names of each of their fathers (if they knew them)
