Ellen, the 1851 provided by Reggie is a different John Devlin, parents John and Helen. The one I've provided for 19, Gilmour Street, Eaglesham appears to be the correct one.

Thank you all so much for your help. I think I have found the right family tree from all of your very full answers.

Still a little hazy due to the marriage in Eastwood, Lanarkshire in 1862 for John Devlin and Margaret McDonald as it seems to follow on to two different fathers for John Devlin, ie John Devlin or Henry Develin.

However, taking it all back from the 1901 and 1881 census info from 'alviegal', this seems to corrolate with the 1871 and 1851census info provided Reggie, so I think that is the correct route - fingers crossed and thanks to everyone for your help.

This is probably John Devlin's family. I do love the childrens' occupation status!

Can't trace my great, great grandparents above either in Scotland or Ireland. Their daughter Elizabeth (my great grandmother) was born in 1868. Elizabeth Devlin then married William Martin (born 1864). Their daughter (my grandmother) Ellen Martin was born in 1904 and married Alexander McEwan (born in 1907) on 25 April 1930.

Anyone out there recognise any of the above?
