Dear Patchem, I don't know if it was correct, I have had a search done by professional genealogists and they say it is correct. We, they and I don't know why he was listed as their grandson, I nned to try to figure this out, to see what else was going on at the time or who was there at the same time, try to see if there is any cannection at all.
Hannah's father is called David Davies, and he was a labourer. The marriage certificate states Hannah lived at Pengawse.
sorry to take so long in getting back to you.

Diana,
Why do you think the 1861 census is correct, as he is recorded as being the grandson of the Daniels family?
What was the name and occupation of Hannah Davies's father from the marriage certificate?

Diana

Diana Report 10 Oct 2012 23:14

sorry about that, thankyou for putting this on here

patchem

patchem Report 10 Oct 2012 07:12

Diana had pm'd to me this marriage, so unfortunately she put the wrong year on the information above:

Hannah Davies
Year of Marriage 1852 Quarter of Marriage Oct-Nov-Dec
registration District Newcastle in Emlyn registration County Cardiganshire
Spouse's Surname Only available for records after 1912
Volume Number 11B Volume Page 67

so this one:
Marriages Dec 1852
DAVIES Hannah Newcastle E 11b 67
James William Newcastle in Emlyn 11b 67

She also confirms the 1861 census that I posted.

" Both William and hannah were of full age" .....

Are you sure he married Hannah ?

Llanfernach is actually Llanfyrnach- a village and parish in the hundred of Cemais, Pembrokeshire.

he only marriage in that district in Oct - Dec 1851 for William James is this one .... but no Hannah / Anne

Dear Patchem, yes William and David are my direct ancestors, my maiden name was James. As far as I know David, and I've had to pay for a professional researcher, was born in 1853 Llanfyrnach. David was married to Rachel Jones, and they had 5 children. I am related to David by his son William Michah James.
I will copy the details down and type it on here, but I don't know how to copy and paste, my children do this easily, if I can pin them down and get them to do it for me, I will, but if not would it be ok for you to look at my tree on here and I'll type it out for you.
Do we have a connection in the family, that would be nice.

patchem

patchem Report 9 Oct 2012 07:22

Could you copy over on to here the 1861 census for David?
Also, if he is a direct ancestor, what is the name of his son or daughter who is also your ancestor?
Thank-you

Added:
Sorry, is 'David' William's son, and your ancestor, if so, when was he born?
Thanks

Added:
Could you also post William and Hannah's 1851 marriage from free bmd?

Diana

Diana Report 9 Oct 2012 03:17

Dear everyone who has answered my post, firstly Thankyou. william was married 21st October 1851 at Llanfernach. Both William and hannah were of full age. William lived at Tycoed and hannah lived at Pengawse. William's father is listed as John James and both he and his son were labourers. The problem I have had is that I have not been able to find the family in the census'. In 1861 David was living with a family of the name Daniels and was their Grandson, which was a puzzle because Hannah's name was Davies. I have had a chat with a professional researcher and she has said that Hannah could have used the name Ann or Anne as well as Hannah(this was a common practice for the time).
If any one of you can take me any further or give me any other ideas of where to look I would be most greatful, Thankyou all again

Thereare a couple of baptisms for William James in Wales in 1827 - father John ( no mother's name) but without knowing how old your William was on any census you have found him on, and where he puts down for his birthplace, no-one can really go any further.

BatMansDaughter,
I (and Jonesey by implication) assumed that Hannah Davies was William's wife, not John's wife.

Presumably as you know his father and his brides names you have a copy of his marriage certificate.

Where and in what year did he marry and what is his age and occupation shown as on the certificate? Also what was his fathers occupation shown as?

patchem

patchem Report 3 Oct 2012 18:18

Presumably you have him on the 1851 census?
Where does it say he was born, and what year?
Thanks
