Melanie Report 4 Oct 2012 14:22

Hi I'm Looking for my Great Grandfather prior to 1882. His name was Thomas Rogers, he was born in Cork Ireland in 1848 and later married my Great Grandmother in 1882 in Hull, Yorkshire. My Great Grandmother's maiden name was Ann Sophia Foster born in Hull in 1852. Prior to marrying my Great Grandfather she had previously been married to Nicholas Foot and had two children to the marriage, James Foot (1872) and Alice Foot (1876). At the time of marrying my Great Grandfather Ann was known as Ann Sophia Foot. My Grandfather had 4 children with Ann, Thomas (1882), Margaret (1887) Florence (1888) and Dennis (1886).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Melanie

Sorry, not seeing anything obvious. 1881 census just gives Ireland as place of birth, nothing else, so can't narrow down that way. You'd like to think he was in the Hull area in 1881 if they married Sep Qtr 1882 but not necessarily....

If you are looking for info about his antecedents, purchase the marriage cert. It will name his father - if he knew him.

Yes it is impossible to determine how long my G Grandparents knew each other before they married so he may not have been in Hull the previous year. i will purchase the marriage cert to gain more information.

Thanks all.

This is a possible for your great grandfather on the 1871 census.

On the image it says Dublin Ireland but he may have put that as the enumerator just asked where in Ireland and he has said Dublin.

And Beverley isn't that far from Hull...

The writing is pretty bad for the ages but he would have been 64 but think he has wrote the wrong age down..Ann Sophia is 60 yrs old on the image.

Did he die in 1912..????

Also in same household as Alice Frost in 1881

Emily Johnson 25 - marr - Lodger
Emily Johnson 5 - Niece
Mary E. Johnson 2 -Niece
William A. Johnson 5 months- nephew

Do these names feature in your knowledge of Ann S Foster ?

 Sue In Leeds

Sue In Leeds Report 5 Oct 2012 09:12

Thought I would put the full 1881 census on for you to look at and decide if the Lodger and her children are any relation.

Also the enumerator has put FROST instead of FOOT.

Hi All

Thank for your help with this.

I believe my Great Grandfather Thomas Rogers must have died in 1912 as the dates add up.

As for the 1881 census, I feel sure that Ann Frost is my G Grandmother, as prior to marrying Thomas Rogers in 1882, she was married to Nicholas Foot and as the names and ages are also correct for her children, I think it is likely that there has been a mistake and her name has been documented as Frost instead of Foot. I'mm not sure who the Johnson's were.

Regards

Melanie
