Wow - that was quick. Thank you.
We have found nothing on Lan OPC or anywhere else we can think of relating to the marriage of Thomas's parents.
Thomas had two brothers and a sister - Wiliam 1801, Alice 1803 and John 1804.
We have seen the baptisms of the Sarah and James you found but we think they may not be the children of our Thomas and Mary.
Thank you so much for your response. Margaret.

Margaret Report 13 Oct 2012 17:11

Thank you for your response Maddie.
We discounted the marriage in Leyland in 1814 as being too late because, so far as we know, Thomas and Mary's first child was born in 1801.
We also discounted the marriage to Mary Bromily because, as you have noted, they were probably too old.
We've been searching for Thomas and Mary for a long time and been unable to come up with anything positive. We're not giving up though.
Thank you so much for your help. Margaret.

On anoher point, it was hardly unusual for parents to marry after the birth of children

Margaret

Margaret Report 14 Oct 2012 12:51

Hello Mike - thanks for your message.
We have all the records for our ancestor Thomas 1807 - i.e. baptism, marriage, death and census and we are as confident as we can be that we are on the right track.
On all the census records Thomas states he was born in Bolton.
We've just drawn a blank when searching for his parents.
I take your point about parents marrying after having children but we thought marrying after having four children was rather unusual in those days.
However, we do realise that this is a possibility and it's also possible they didn't marry at all.
Thank you so much for your input. Margaret.

I ran into a similar problem with my Brindle's in Bolton, and I know it will be more difficult for you. My GGfather remarried between census and his new wife had the same first name. Took me a couple of years to work out what had happened, but at least I had certificates. If the first wife died after or soon after childbirth and his second wife is Mary then that's your answer. Only a suggestion.

Hello Peter - thank you for your comment. Sorry about the late response. As you say, it is more difficult for us as we are stuck before the census records and certificates began. So glad you were able to work out what happened to your Brindles - an excellent piece of detective work on your part. I will bear your suggestion in mind in my future searches. Thanks again for your input. Margaret.
