Do you know if his 2nd wife Mary was the one who died in Perth in May 1909, aged 70?

The son Joseph who died in 1916 died in a well, overcome by foul air. There is a newspaper article about it at NLA Trove.

It is probably a coincidence but this is a burial at Greenough near Geraldton

WARRENER, Joseph 52 YRS 1882 7 JUN GGH

However this would make the wife Ellen SMITH (formerly wife of Reuben BACKSHALL), not Mary LLOYD/SHAW so if you know his children to definitely come from Mary then this is not your man! Ellen died in 1908.

Interesting that they were in the same area as Champion Bay though!

There is this too, in a Perth newspaper, though the papers were not known for great accuracy at the time:
The Inquirer & Commercial News, Wednesday 21 June 1882
I regret to have to record the recent occurrence of three sudden deaths at the middle Irwin, within a few days of each other, viz, Messrs. Joseph Warren, of the Greenough, Robert Glen and Mrs Benson, all of whom came to their end from natural causes.

Yes to all. I was taken in by the Joseph Warren Joseph Warrener confusion at first but the newspaper obviously got it wrong. I know that Joseph Warren offered his two farms up for sale in 1876 saying he was leaving the colony however he was involved in sheep stealing charges in 1880 so he obviously didn't leave then. The story I got from my mother was that he went to live in Queensland. But that could be completely wrong. Also I read on the convict page I have that he returned to the UK on the 20 June 1891 but I don't know how to confirm that.Thank you very much for your help. It would be great to finally get to the bottom of this mystery.

Do you have wife Mary's death certificate? They are usually very informative.

Unknown Report 5 Nov 2012 10:07

The death cert I have for Mary Warren has no information on it. Everything says unknown except the place and date of death. The age works out right though. This is why I'm having so much trouble.

Do you have the 1866 marriage certificate?

Unknown

Unknown Report 6 Nov 2012 10:40

No, I don't. There doesn't appear to be one. I have the marriage of Joseph and Mary Shaw but not Lloyd. I'm thinking they weren't married.

Are you sure they are not the same person? (Mary I mean)

Unknown

Unknown Report 7 Nov 2012 09:35

I don't think they are, as all together, Joseph had 6 children 3 to Mary Lloyd and 3 to Mary Shaw.

I was searching through Trove and found a J Warren in South Aust who was local politician. The article said he was 73 and my man would be that age in 1904. I k ow he had travelled there in the past. Perhaps that is where he disappeared to.
