Does anyone have information on these two brothers? Albert was married to Florence who ran a stall on Ashton Indoor market in the fifties and sixties. Alfred was my father but I never really knew him. You might be ralated to him or Albert and it would be lovely to get in touch.

Hey Jude - were you thinking Albert would have been a bit old to marry in 1953 if born 1920 ish?

Yes and no...my parents - born 1925/1926 respectively married 1951 and had me their first and only in 1957. My mum was 32. And that was odd in those days.

There are 3 Robert Jacksons born around the same time as Lydia (and another 2 who are older) in Wigan 1911 census, but this one could be a contender as living in Aspull too

Carole

You should try researching them yourself..... look for the births, at least.

Why do think they were twins?

Carole

Carole Report 31 Oct 2012 14:28

Dear all,
Thank you for your messages. I did not know my father and my mother never talked about him. I have been told that my father (Alfred Jackson) had a twin brother called Albert who married a lady called Florence. I did meet Aunty Flo a couple of times when she had the indoor market stall in Ashton-under-lyne. I have tried researching births but cannot find an Albert and an Alfred on the same sheet with the same district and the same mother's maiden name. Stuart's suggested marriage looks like a good match. I don't know exactly when they were born but my mother was born in 1923 and I made the assumption that he may have been a little older than her.

Using http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1927
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
JACKSON Albert Aspull Wigan & Leigh COOK ASPL/74/369
JACKSON Alfred Aspull Wigan & Leigh COOK ASPL/74/370

so the births are actually rego'ed with successive entry #s (as one would expect if they be twins, and Albert is probably the elder twin).
