The baptism of Horace to Percy and Louisa looks as if the surname has been corrected to Thrasher, so this may be Louisa in 1881, boarding with other unrelated children. The head of the household is described as a matron:

Thank you to everyone since Friday who has helped with another part of this puzzle. Can now see how this fits in with our family as the family members/family friends lived and most likely worked together:

1891 Cenus Fulham
Person: Percy F Atkins
Born: 1871 Brixton
Living: Sinclair Road
Job: Private Secretary
Grace Courtenay's husband Herbert Solomon is born in 1871 in Brixton
Grace' Courtenay's brother-in-law Albert Edward Court is a private secretary in 1901 census

1893 Birth Fulham
Father: Birth Certificate Being Ordered
Mother: Birth Certificate Being Ordered
Son: Horace Thrasher

1896 Baptism Earls Court
Son: Horace Thresher
Father: Percy Thresher
Mother: Louisa Thresher
Horace, Percy and Louisa are living at 133 Finborough Road with Violet Jezard, other Jezards and Uhthoff family
Percy Thresher and Louisa Thresher get married in 1905 (Percy's name is actually Atkins) and for this baptism they are using Louisa's name Thresher (Thrasher)

1901 Census Fulham
Person: Albert Edward Court
Born: 1874 Norwood
Living: Dorset Mansions
Job: Private Secretary
Percy Atkins is a private secretary in 1891 census

1901 Census Kensington
Person: Percy Atkins
Born: 1871 Brixton
Living: 150 Finborough Road
Job: Theatrical Business Manager
Grace Courtenay and Herbert Solomon (her husband to be) are living at 18 Finborough Road
Jezards, Threshers/Thrashers/Atkins and Uhthoffs (Mr Brookes is a wedding witness to Ruby Jezard and Albert Edward Courts's wedding - this is the maiden name of Annie Louisa Uhthoff) are living at 133 Finborough Road
Albert Edward Court in 1905 is Chief Of Staff at London Collesium

1905 Marriage Fulham
Husband: Percy Atkins (Thresher/Thrasher)
Wife: Louisa Thrasher (Thresher)

1905 Birth Fulham
Father: Albert Edward Court
Mother: Ruby Court
Son: Edward Leslie Court
Ruby Court states on Edward's birth certificate that her maiden name is Ruth Jezzard - her mother Priscilla Thrasher marries Robert Thrasher who dies in 1879 and then marries John Jezard according to Priscilla's death certificate in 1900
Albert, Ruby and Edward are living at 52 Inglethorpe Street and Albert is Chief Of Staff at the Collesium
Percy Thresher/Thrasher/Atkins and Louisa Thresher/Thrasher/Atkins are living at 12a Inglethorpe Road
In 1901 census Percy Atkins/Thresher/Thrasher is a Theatrical Business Manager

1906 to 1915 Electoral Register Fulham
Percy Thresher living at 12a Inglethorpe Street
Ruby Court (maiden names Ruth Jezard & Ruth Thrasher) living with husband Albert Edward Court and son Edward Leslie Court (Horace Courtenay's cousin) at 52 Inglethorpe Street

1911 Census Fulham
Percy Atkins
Born: 1872 Brixton
Living: 12a Inglethorpe Street
Job: Stock Exchange Clerk
and
Person: Louisa Atkins
Born: 1878 Holborn
Percy and Louisa state that they have no children or have lost no children - but they had Horace Thresher baptised in 1896 as parents Percy Thresher and Louisa Thresher (using Louisa's maiden name of Thrasher) . It is more than likely that Horace Thrasher whose birth is registerd in Fulham in 1893 is the same baby baptised here. Is Horace Thresher/Thrasher really Horace Courtenay. Kensington Register Office can find no record for Horace Courtenay who in 1901 census and 1911 census says he was born in Earls Court in 1894.
Percy is born in Brixton in 1872 and Grace Courtenay's husband Herbert Solomon is also born in Brixton in 1871 on the 1911 census
Louisa is born in 1878 in Holborn where Grace says she is born in 1877 in Holborn on the 1911 census
Horace Courtenay in 1911 census is a clerk stockbroker
Horace's step-father Herbert Solomon in 1911 census is a clerk stockbroker

1918 Electoral Register Fulham
Percy Thrasher living at 12a Inglethorpe Street

If anyone recognises these family groups would be very happy to hear from you. Thank you!

To all Genes Reunited Researchers, thank you all very much for your researching and suggestions. Although we had carried out much research on these families we kept coming up against so many brick walls that we couldn't understand. The biggest breakthrough was Genes Reunited researching on Percy Thresher and finding that he was Percy Atkins and later marrying Louisa Thrasher. Then the suggestions that wedding certificate fathers could be fictitious or may have a step-father prompted us to re-search for Grace Jezard/Courtenay/Solomon using new surnames that had been discovered - and that is how we found Grace and her family by using Thrasher.

Please find below our family we have been tracing (still not able to trace all records but we have now been able to make sense of the family names and connections - and the certificates we have been able to find will help when they arrive). The General Register Office believe these families shied away from officialdom and did not record official records and/or they used different names when registering documents (and this has since been found to be the case from Genes Reunited Researchers).

(Grace) Alice Maud Mary Solomon (maiden names Alice Maud Mary Thrasher & Alice Maud Mary Jezard & Grace Alice Maud Mary Courtenay) did not talk about her family and so her illegitimate son Horace Courtenay and grandson Michael Courtenay assumed she was either an only child or her siblings had died and had no other family.

Herbert Lewis Solomon (Grace's husband) also did not talk about his family and so again it was assumed that he was an only child or his siblings had died and had no other family. Herbert married an unmarried mother but he also married a woman who was from another religion (we do not know if from another social class) but Herbert's family was very wealthy and influential.

THRASHERS/THRESHERS/ATKINS
Horace Thrasher birth register 1893 Fulham
Horace Thrasher baptised 1896 Earls Court (as Thresher)

No 1901 census and 1911 census records for Horace Thrasher/Thresher/Atkins
No marriage record for Horace Thrasher/Thresher/Atkins
No death record for Horace Thrasher/Thresher/Atkins
Kensington Register Office believe that Horace Thrasher/Thresher and Horace Courtenay are the same baby

Thanks to the Percy Thrasher/Thresher/Atkins and Louisa Thrasher/Thresher/Atkins research we were able to notice that

Percy Thresher & Louisa Thresher were the parents who baptised Horace Thresher in 1896 (there are entries in this baptism register of babies being found out to be born of different parents and/or illegitimate)
Percy and Louisa married in 1905 as Percy Atkins and Louisa Thrasher
As a married couple in 1911 census as Percy Atkins & Louisa Atkins living at 12a Inglethorpe Street
Percy Thresher in 1911 electoral roll living at 12a Inglethorpe Street
Percy Thrasher in the 1918 electoral roll living at 12a Inglethorpe Street

However, in the 1911 census Horace Atkins (or Horace Thrasher/Thresher) is not staying with Percy and Louisa. Percy and Louisa also state they have no children and have not lost any children from their marriage, although this is true as Horace Thrasher/Thresher was born before their marriage - but Horace Thrasher/Thresher/Atkins is also not traceable on the 1901 census and 1911 census, getting married or dying.

THRASHER/JEZARD/COURTENAY

1871 CENSUS
Father Robert Thrasher
Mother Priscilla Thrasher (Pope)
Daughter Eliza Priscilla Thrasher (we have no knowledge of Eliza)

1879 DEATH
Robert Thrasher dies

1881 CENSUS
Priscilla Thrasher
Eliza Thrasher
Alice Thrasher
Ruth Thrasher - Ruth is born around the period her father Robert Thrasher dies. When she gets married in 1900 Ruth calls herself Ruby Jezard and states her father is Robert Jezard deceased (her mother Priscilla Thrasher later marries John Jezard as stated on Priscilla's 1900 death certificate that she is the widow of John Jezard) - was this because Priscilla was unsure if Robert Thrasher was Ruth's father or John Jezard was Ruth's father - or that as Ruth was so young when Robert Thrasher died out of respect to both fathers she remembered both her father and step-father
Alfred Pope (brother)

MARRIAGE
Priscilla Thrasher
John Jezard
On Priscilla's death certificate in 1900 she is recorded as the widow of John Jezard with her daughter-in-law Ellen Jezard in attendance

1891 CENSUS
Alice Maud Mary Thrasher is working as a servant/assistant for a coffee house owner

HORACE COURTENAY
Horace Courtenay's baptism record is not traceable
Horace Courtenay's birth record is not traceable
Kensington Register Office believe that Horace Thrasher/Thresher and Horace Courtenay are the same baby
There is an old family rumour that Horace Courtenay is the illegitimate son of an Earl
Horace Courtenay's family celebrate his birthday as 2 January but Latymer Upper School celebrate his birthday as 21 September

Horace Courtenay is on 1901 census
Horace Courtenay is on 1911 census
Horace Courtenay's marriage record is traceable in 1924
Horace Courtenay's death record is traceable in 1959

Horace Courtenay went to a girls boarding school in the 1901 census with Violet Gezard (Jezard) who we now know was a relative of Priscilla Thrasher's second husband John Jezard. Why has Horace been sent to a girls boarding school?

(GRACE) ALICE MAUD MARY COURTENAY & HERBERT LEWIS SOLOMON

Grace is living in a boarding house in Kensington, Finborough Road in the 1901 census living on own means and as an unmarried mother has not been sent to the workhouse with her baby or her son Horace Courtenay sent to a baby farm or an adoptive family as a nurse-child while she is forced to work, so therefore she has a private income. Her son has also been sent to a girls boarding school in Southend in 1901 census, together with Violet Gezard (Jezard) a member of Grace's step-father's family. (This again was another chance observation noticing Violet and we were able to look up Violet's details and subsequently found other Jezard and Thrasher/Thresher details).

Grace marries her husband Herbert Lewis Solomon in 1901. In the 1911 census Herbert, Grace and Horace are living in Kew with Grace's nephew Edward Leslie Court (this again was luck that Edward was staying with them and after obtaining Edward's birth certificate proved to be Grace's sister's son - Ruth Jezard - so providing another link to the Jezards/Thrashers).

Thank you all for bringing us this far - we have now found (Grace) Alice and her family at long last! And so hope to be able to find any living relatives also.

Horace Courtenay's father is still the mystery to solve.

Having another read of the thread, and using the further details from the 1881 census, I wonder if this is the Ancestry entry for 1891 for Priscilla and her daughters?

It is quite a stretch from
Thrasher, b Hartest, Suffolk
to
Torplow, b Cardiff, South Wales,
but I suppose if the enumerator was copying the information, onto the forms that were kept and later microfilmed, from the householder schedules that were destroyed, it is just about possible to believe the misinterpretation.

Hello Ivy

It does very much look like them doesn't it (with Louisa being a sister then - will update when we receive Louisa's birth certificate and wedding certificate).

Torplow isn't exactly a well-used name either!! I looked back at Priscilla in the 1881 census and her place of birth could be mis-read as Wales (perhaps the enumerator took a leap of faith and made up what he thought)?

With (Grace) Alice being at the coffee shop in 1891 census and her father Robert being dead in 1879 I think you have found Priscilla and her daughters.

Ruth (Ruby) was birth registered in Westminster.

Thank you Ivy!

Ivy - must be the right family Torplow in 1891 census - Louisa is at a boarding school in 1881 census! (Grace) Alice and Louisa are sisters!
