On the 1901 census for Frank and Emily Dimmick at Swanmore, Ryde, is a cousin William Whittington born about 1889 at Whippingham on the island, but I'm struggling to find him elsewhere or the connection between the families.

Perhaps one of these births is a possible for him. If you can narrow it down, you could obtain the certificate and find out who his parents were. You might need to cast the cousin connection further apart. He might be a close cousin but could also be a third or fifth and any number of times removed.
