Hi..I had my dads info first and worked backwards using the 1911 census first. Then got my grandad Henry john Brett b. in holborn in 1862, by the way his name was same as my dad.....this got me my uncles on dads side....then went to next census down ets until I found William Brett b. 1836 also in holborn /lambeth....apparently William had son's Henry[my grandad] also charles b.1864, john b. 1866, frank b. 1868 some of these when the census was done were in Pancras.....thats how I got to William Brett. When I search for Williams marriage it stated no details of his wife....and she wasn't on the census i found him on either..bit strange.......so William was born in 1836 pancras, london. So far have search GR ..Ancestry.co and freebmd...agree with you am really enjoying putting the family tree together..and thanks to everyone for their help..I'm still fairly new at this.......Susan

Susan - you can start by looking up records on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk

If you find the birth of your ancestor who was the child of William Brett you can then order the birth certificate to see who the mother was.

You must know who your descended from so aren't they with the mother on any census?

You also need to give us an idea of which part of the world they were from.

Hi Susan,

We would need more information to help you.... i'm sure the answer is out there for you!

Can you tell us how you have got to William Brett, his Year of Birth and Birth location.

Where have you looked so far? We need all this so we can help you help yourself. A lot of the fun is in finding the information yourself, rather than being spoon fed it by others.
