Ainsworth

Ainsworth Report 13 Nov 2012 15:46

Hello, I was asked if I had a copy of the original birth certificate. the answer to that is 'I think so'.

I have a copy (dated 9th May 1921). It is entitled a certified copy of an entry of birth. Interesting as it has Mary Ann Ainsworth's mark. Completed by the registrar though. does that help?

Dear all,

I DO have a copy of the birth certificate that reads as follows:

DOB 19/6/1907
Name Robert
Father Thomas (Must be the TOMAS on the census)
Mother Mary Ann Turner
Profession Pastry Cook
Address 29 Rockingham St Southwark , Newington Butts. He was born at this address.

So it seems to me he was NOT on the census. Is that agreed?

Kind regards to one and all

Bob

You really need the birth cert......until you get that, nothing can be proved.

OP = original poster.......ie..........you, in this case

Hello again,

I did not know that this thing would go 'viral.

the facts I have are as follows:

Robert William Alfred Ainsworth DOB 5/2/1930 (My father)
Father B 19/6/1907; we celebrated his birthday on that date. question mark added because of unable to trace on census. this is why I queried
Robert Ainsworth married Elizabeth Sarah Brimble 1929 (source (BMD records)
He was in the navy and then was a carpenter. Navy dates not known

that is the actual material I can prove.

Does this help/

PS what does OP stand for?

thanks again

Bob

Also, apologies for not hanging around. Not sure of the protocol regarding postings (sorry Reggie). Been a member for three days!

I do have a small tree on ancestry but am developing this one as it makes more sense

Thank you again. Interesting about the swapping of relations (Mel) :-)

Robert was definitely a London lad and so the Lancashire leads are out. In any case, it would seem that he was not on the 1911 census. that appears to be the common thought.

Again my thanks

London baptism records on Ancestry only go up to 1906, so that facility is no use in Robert's case.

None of which explains why he isn't on the 1911 census

This must be Jane using Jane as name same as mother.

London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906
about Mary Anne Jane Ainsworth
Name: Mary Anne Jane Ainsworth
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 8 Apr 1888
Father's Name: Thomas Ainsworth = Pastry cook.
Mother's name: Mary Anne Ainsworth
Parish or Poor Law Union: Lambeth St Andrew
Borough: Lambeth
Register Type: Parish Registers

Address 33 Market St.

So that is the seven children accounted for and NO Robert.

Iv'e done it again hav'nt I as this census has this info on on the previous page.

I put up the baptisms of Thomas's children and there were 6 only Jane was missing so Thomas may have been down as Robert's father on his marriage cert but he definately was not. It has beenn known for a brother to have been put down on a marriage cert as the father and even uncles etc. The birth of Robert Ainsworth in Southark 1907 would be worth buying I think to find out his mothers maiden name. It is the only way to be sure.

On that Ancestry tree, he gives the 1911 census as proof of birth but has a census with a Robert b1909 Poplar. He does give a full date of birth - 19th June 1907.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Nov 2012 12:51

On the 1911 census for Thomas it says they had 7 children and only 4 left living and they are on the census.

It seems that Robert has a tree on Ancestry. His Robert he has marrying on 4th Aug 1929 to a Elizabeth Sarah Brimble. He has the marriage cert it says.

This is what he has written on the tree.

Grandad was a bricklayer. His father Thomas was a baker. The church was in Newington. Grandad was 22, Nanny was 19. Got marriage certificate,
