Thanks everyone ... getting quite a bit of info here.

Gins - No, not my tree on Ancestry. I'm not the ALSTON. I'm researching for an old (80 yrs) family friend (known me since before I was born).

But I did notice that there are 3 trees on Ancestry who have the details wrong. They've assumed that it was the girl (Beryl born 1923) who drowned at Magnetic Island, when in fact it was Eric (born 1919). Perhaps I should tell them?

Yes, Frank and Hugh were brothers, and from what I've discovered the past couple of days, both families moved to Brisbane in 1949 and lived near the Ascot Racecourse. They were into racehorses.

Chris - thanks I hadn't been able to find when they came back from England. Only gone 5 months huh? Long time to take a 13 year old out of school !
