A John Rae born in Scotland c1884 emigrated to USA in 1908- 1909 can anyone give me any info please. Jill

Do you know any more about him? His parent's names? Was he married when he emigrated? His occupation? There are over 30 John Raes with a YOB 1883-1885 on the 1901 Scottish census.

There are also a few John Rae's of that age emigrating to USA around that time.

You really must tell us what else you know so we can trace the right person. At the very least which part of Scotland he was from.

In US 1920, there's only 1 John Rae of the approx right age (32) with pob=Scotland.
He immig 1910, wife Sadie a year later and son John (a=7) a year after that - this timeline doesn't make sense to me.

I know I have put this request in before buy I now have some more info on him.
He lived at 14 cooper Street lieth Midlothian with his father john and mother Mary He was born 1888c and in 1911 he wasn't at that address I think he went to sea or emigrated not sure Canada or USA

On the attestation papers that Kay posted it looks like John snr was his stepfather.

John jnr was a foreman for a Mr Pearson at Leith Docks when he attested.

The records state that he joined the Royal Navy on 7 March 1906.
