Find Ancestors

Hi all, Very new to this, Above named are my great grandparents, we believe they emigrated to new zealand, leaving behind a son also Robert born 1904 my grandfather. Nothing was ever heard from them again.
i can not find anything about either of them and would love any help anyone can give me.
I believe they lived in a place called Hexham Northumberland, then may have moved to Dumfries Scotland before emigrating to New Zealand.

I believe he was born in hexham no idea where his father was born and noone in the family knows anything about him or mary elder, its all a mystery.

Hi Kathleen, I dont think thats my grandfather as on his marriage cert it says parents Robert Mcdougall and Mary Elder. Dont know where either were born.

How do i get that information? if a robert mcdougall was also on that passenger list it could well be them.

Did you find your grandfather's birth record to confirm where he was born, and did you locate him on any 1911 census?

Do you have a death cert for him and does it name the same people?
Quite often different/ correct birth parents are provided on the DC.

Hi Anne No birth record only marriage in dumfries, have no death cert but his death is recorded on scotlands people with the same names and the dates are correct
nothing on census.

Hi pat, not sure if thats the correct mary elder as on my grandfathers marriage certificate it only states her maiden name but will look into that one

I think you may have to send for his DC or visit the GRO in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Kilmarnock
This 1993 death record: surname matches with both McDougall and Elder.
The inference is that his birth name may have been Elder

still no joy finding robert mcdougall and mary elder approx 1880s emigrating to nz 1910 any help gratefully appreciated

Wow found my great grandfather, he did indeed emmigate to New Zealand and died there in 1958. Have alaso found my GGgrandparents and lots of other relatives. Still no joy on tracing my Great Grandmother Mary Elder, Northumberland. but at least im getting somewhere now. Thanks to all who have helped me, its much appreciated.
